About this file

This document is a technical design guidelines specification for a Security Electronics Fiber Optic Cable System for the Federal Bureau of Prisons (FBOP). The specification provides comprehensive technical requirements for fiber optic cable installation, including detailed specifications for cable types, performance characteristics, installation procedures, and testing protocols. Key technical requirements include using single-mode fiber optic cables with specific performance parameters such as core diameter (9 microns), maximum attenuation (0.5 dB/km at 1310 nm and 1550 nm), and operating temperature range (-40°C to +70°C).

The document outlines fiber optic cable assignments for various security electronic systems, including Sentry LAN, TRULINCS LAN, Education LAN, Commissary LAN, UNICOR LAN, Staff Digital Telephone LAN, and Radio Backbone. Each cable type has specific strand allocations for different network purposes, with provisions for spare strands. The specification mandates rigorous installation and testing procedures, including end-to-end loss measurements, connector loss limitations, and comprehensive documentation requirements. The guidelines are marked as "Sensitive But Unclassified - SBU" and are specifically tailored for construction and environmental review with a revision date of 06-01-22.
