The specification encompasses furnishing of plant, labor, supervision, materials, and equipment necessary to complete concrete work in accordance with ACI 318 Building Code Requirements for Reinforced Concrete and ACI 301 Specification for Structural Concrete for Buildings. The work includes concrete mix design and submittal requirements showing composition of all mixes, materials, admixtures, ratios, compressive strength, and slump in accordance with ACI standards. Laboratory testing requirements mandate submission of test results on all materials, trial batch results if conducted, and field test results during construction with frequency specified in Part 3. Concrete materials specified include Type I Portland cement conforming to ASTM-C150, fine and coarse aggregates conforming to ASTM-C33, potable water, and chloride-free admixtures including water-reducing types conforming to ASTM C494 Type A and air-entraining types conforming to ASTM C260.

Concrete compressive strength requirements specify a minimum 28-day compressive strength of 3,750 psi for all construction unless otherwise noted, with slump and air content per ACI 318 standards. All concrete shall contain entrained air in accordance with ACI 318 and be proportioned per ACI 211.1 standards, preferably based on field experience or laboratory trial mix design if sufficient data is unavailable. Ready-mix concrete must conform to ASTM-C94 specifications. Metal reinforcement bars shall conform to ASTM-A615 Grade 60, and welded wire fabric shall conform to ASTM A185. Execution requirements mandate clean equipment and removal of debris and ice prior to placement, with concrete deposited in final position to prevent segregation. Consolidation must conform to ACI 309 standards, and curing shall follow ACI 308 standards. Cold weather concreting shall comply with ACI 306R recommendations and hot weather concreting with ACI 305R recommendations. Field testing requirements include preparation of test cylinders per ASTM C31 with not fewer than six cylinders from each day's placement or per 100 cubic yards, slump testing per ASTM C143, and air content testing per ASTM C231, with laboratory testing at seven days and 28 days of age per ASTM C39.
