The specification refers to AISC approved steel fabricator and erector. An approved fabricator/ erector would be a fabricator/ erector that builds to the required specifications , as well as AISC standards , on this project. Is it acceptable to use a fabricator/ erector that builds to the standards of AISC and the specifications on this project, yet is not certified by AISC, but will provide shop inspection certificates from a respected inspection agency, verifying compliance with project and AISC standards. . I have done a fair share of projects that require AISC but will substitute for 3rd party inspections.
It is acceptable to build to AISC standards and provide shop inspection certifications as well as meeting all required Special Inspection requirements.
File details come from the government source that posted it.
