About this file
This is a detailed set of project specifications for an asbestos abatement project at the Jefferson Barracks VA Medical Center in St. Louis, Missouri. The project involves removing asbestos-containing materials (ACM) from specific areas in Buildings 1, 3, 24, and 51, with a focus on the Morgue Cooler in Building 1. The specifications outline comprehensive requirements for preparing and executing the asbestos removal, including establishing regulated work areas, implementing negative air pressure systems, using proper personal protective equipment, wet removal techniques, and strict decontamination procedures.
The project specifications provide exhaustive guidelines for the asbestos abatement contractor, including requirements for worker training, medical surveillance, respiratory protection, waste disposal, and final clearance testing. The contractor must follow detailed protocols for containment, removal, packaging, and disposal of asbestos-containing materials, with specific emphasis on maintaining worker safety and preventing fiber release. The work is to be performed under continuous monitoring by industrial hygienists, with final clearance requiring air sampling that meets AHERA (Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act) standards. The project is expected to have a 270-calendar day performance period after the Notice to Proceed.
