About this file
This is a bid request document from Salt Lake Community College (SLCC) in Utah for the replacement of a failing retaining wall located on the south side of Community Boulevard at the Taylorsville Campus. The retaining wall, approximately 1,000 feet in length, requires replacement due to insufficient drainage and improper installation of the existing block wall. The project scope includes construction of a new retaining wall using larger concrete blocks (2x2x4 feet recommended) to withstand greater pressure, installation of a comprehensive drainage system, and proper backfill materials. The existing privacy and sound wall positioned approximately 4 feet behind and above the retaining wall must be protected during construction and repaired as necessary following completion.
The document does not specify pricing terms, response deadlines, site visit requirements, bidders' meetings, award dates, contract duration, or renewal options. Funding sources, budget amounts, and other financial parameters are not detailed in the provided file. The project appears to be addressing long-standing structural issues where water infiltration from residential yards on the opposite side of the wall, combined with inadequate original installation practices, has compromised the wall's integrity.

Text version
The retaining wall on the south side of Community Blvd, south side of the Taylorsville Campus, is failing. We assume that this is due to insufficient drainage, and probably improper installation of the existing block wall. The residential yards on the other side of the wall, mostly grass, might be the source of much water and with improper backfill and no drainage system the retaining wall is failing. See the attached file for detail and photos of the existing wall.
We want to build a new wall using larger block that will hold greater pressure, a drainage system, and proper backfill. The photo below shows a suitable block.
The wall is about 1000 feet long and has a privacy/sound wall above and about 4 feet back. The privacy/sound wall needs to be protected while replacing the retaining wall – and/or repaired afterwards
