About this file
This document is a 2026 Public Right-of-Way Bureau Specification and Detail summary prepared by the City of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, outlining revisions to curb and sidewalk specifications and street details for municipal construction projects. The specification updates address multiple infrastructure elements including standard sidewalk width increases from 48 inches to 60 inches, revised drainage requirements for downspout disconnection via trench drain or pipe through the curb during sidewalk replacement, clarification on expansion requirements around utilities, and modifications to driveway apron detectable warning surface requirements. Street detail revisions include the addition of standard utility trench repair details, base repair cross sections with 1-foot cutback specifications, and updated pavement marking details requiring thermoplastic materials. The document also introduces new sections addressing tree root trimming guidance, obstruction management requiring additional sidewalk width, and monument box detail relocation for clarity.
The specification revisions reflect current municipal engineering practices and regulatory compliance standards. Notable changes include the removal of deicing chemical usage requirements, eliminating the need for replaceable detectable warning surfaces on driveway aprons, revised downspout drain detail showing pipe placement below sidewalk rather than concrete encasement, and discretionary pavement compaction testing requirements at the Bureau of Engineering's determination. These specifications establish uniform standards for municipal curb, sidewalk, and street construction projects undertaken by the City of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, ensuring consistency and compliance across public right-of-way improvements.
