About this file

This document is an Addendum to a Request for Quotation (RFQ) from Argonne National Laboratory for an Ammonia Preconditioner system. The solicitation (5-S176-Q-00687-00) seeks a vendor to integrate Argonne-supplied components and design additional components to create an integrated system capable of harnessing waste heat from a gas turbine/combustor to partially crack incoming fuel and produce a pressurized gas mixture of ammonia, H2, and N2. Key technical requirements include developing a human-machine interface in LabView for data acquisition and control, facilitating utility connections, and connecting to combustor exhaust.

The addendum provides clarifications on several technical aspects, including confirmation that Purdue will provide an ammonia tank by June 2026, anticipated sensors for the tank (level sensor, pressure, and thermocouple), and vendor responsibilities for delivering the preconditioner to the test site, connecting utilities, making electrical and electronic connections, and troubleshooting the system. The procurement is being conducted by the Department of Energy Office of Science, with a lowest-price, technically acceptable evaluation methodology. The offer deadline has been extended to September 12th, with questions and responses posted as of August 27, 2025.

8/27/2025 This addendum is being issued to modify the subject REQUEST FOR Quotation (RFQ) 5-S176-Q-00687-00 as follows:

1. Please confirm that the ammonia tank already exists at Purdue’s site.

A1. It does not exist at Purdue’s site yet; however, Purdue is tasked with providing the ammonia tank by June 2026.

2. For the ammonia tank, we would like to know the signals that will be integrated to the Data acquisition and Control System. Relevant information is needed to understand existing sensors, transducers, thermocouples, etc.

A2. We anticipate it to have level sensor, pressure and thermocouple. Specifics will be provided later for data acquisition.

3. Please provide the technical specs for the ammonia tank as we would like to identify size, fittings, and specs for piping.

A3. These are yet to be determined.

4. Please provide the technical specs for the HX-1 (Catalyzed Heat Exchanger, “CataRex”) provided by ANL including the drawings for this system.

A4. HX-1 drawings were provided as a part of the package. They are attached to this email.

5. Please provide datasheets for the HX-3 + HX-4 (High & Low Pressure Vaporizers, integrated block) provided by ANL.

A5. These are custom fabricated. The drawings are attached.

6. Please provide datasheets for P-1 (Liquid Pump), including information of the existing drive.

A6. The drawings are attached.

7. Please provide datasheets for P-2 (Compressor / Gas Booster) including information for signal integration.

A7. The vendor will have to determine the specifications of the P-2 compressor, and share the quote with Argonne for ordering.

8. Please confirm that site installation is not included in vendor scope and that only site support will be needed for startup.

A8. Purdue is tasked with making all the utilities available at the site. The vendor will have to deliver the preconditioner to the test site, connect the utilities, and make all the electrical and electronic connections, troubleshoot and shown a functional control & data acquisition system.
