7. At the walk through, it was indicated that the service dock to service the canteen would need to always remain open. We are anticipating that the area identified as phase 4 would be our crane and pump truck location which would not be able to be moved easily. Also, this seems to be the area for laydown in our eyes. Please confirm possible crane ‘lay-down’ locations?
RESPONSE:
This area may be utilized as laydown/crane location. Coordination efforts to be made with VA prior to taking over space.
8. Is it possible to place a crane between Bldg. 26 and Bldg. 19 for mechanical or steel erection operations?
If contractor can fit a crane in that location, it is permissible. Contractor will be responsible for ensuring adequate protection for all utilities, above and below grade. Contractor also responsible for repairing any damage that may occur to sidewalk, grass, etc.
9. More than likely, much of the concrete around the phase 4 area and the paving between Bldg. 26 and Bldg. 19 will be removed and replaced due to the number of utilities and traffic in this area. Are we to assume that this area will not be used as an emergency egress during our construction operations?
RESPONSE:
Emergency egress to be maintained at the sidewalks. Coordinate exact paths with VA COR and Safety prior to demolition.
10. Sheets AE401 through AE418 indicate equipment schedules. Can you give a better detail of whom provides and who installs this equipment? There is no legend that indicates this. RESPONSE:
Reference abbreviations on sheet GI001.
11. Reference sheet G-000. In the bid deduct notes, it indicates that the area will have metal walls and gyp board around the exterior walls of the space. Are all future utilities to be constructed in these wall spaces? New ceilings are to be installed in this area with minimum lighting also. RESPONSE:
No in-wall electrical required in bid deduct.
12. Reference sheet G-000. Is the shared waiting room 100A required for the base bid renal care unit? Should this space not be part of the bid deduct alternate?

Mechanical Technical Questions
32. Due to underground utilities around and possibly over the existing fuel tank, hydro excavation will be the safest way of tank removal. Will there be any disposal requirements for the removed material?
RESPONSE:
Please refer to Civil Spec Section 312011 Earthwork for excavation and backfill requirements. If the removed material is still considered “suitable” it could be reused, if it is deemed “unsuitable” after removal, disposal is subject to the contractor, specifications, and environmental considerations/regulations.
33. Specification 23-10-00 is fuel related information. It calls out for a concrete anchor will there be a detail showing the concrete pad dimensions, per specified tank?
RESPONSE:
Please refer to Civil plans and specifications for concrete anchors and pad dimensions.
34. If the ground around the existing fuel tank is contaminated what is the contractors responsibility and will a modification to the contract be issued? Spec 31-20-11 refers to unsuitable material, would fuel contamination fall under this specification?
RESPONSE:
Please refer Spec Section 312011-1.2.A.1 Unsuitable Materials.
35. Will the grease pipe have heat trace? Current elevations show just over 1/8 per foot of fall with a total distance of 183’ +/-
RESPONSE:
Due to space and placement constraints, that is the closest and most suitable place for the interceptor. Neither ASME A112.14.6 nor the manufacturer’s instructions indicate a maximum length/fall for this system. So, while it was not included in the design drawings, the inclusion of heat trace piping (through an ASI or addendum) to the grease pipe would make the likelihood of grease build-up happening during a longer run less likely, therefore decreasing the risk of backup or the need for more frequent maintenance and cleaning of pipe. Not required from all that could be referenced and found, but also used as an industry practice to mitigate issues. If heat tracing is deemed most effective for this system by the contractor and the owner, coordination with the electrical engineer and contractor will need to occur.
36. Per PG 101 phase 2 ground floor, hose reels are indicated as (typical) detail P-401 shows 4 hose reels. Are these considered “medical air” hose reels and will they be specified?
RESPONSE:
These are for dental air, so they would be considered “medical air.” These hose reels should be owner/contractor selected and provided as they are specific to the internal equipment needs of the space.
37. Per MH 101 ground floor mechanical PH 1- shows 4 temporary duct (34x14, 22x12, 22x12, and ?) will these be installed during normal working hours? During the walk, it did not appear space was available for the additional duct. would flex duct be acceptable in certain areas?
RESPONSE:
Temporary flex duct can be acceptable if intent is relayed and agreed upon by the owner and Engineer in advance of installation, for confirmation of sizing and airflow needs. Timing of installation shall be coordinated with the owner and stakeholders of the spaces it will affect.
38. Are new openings in the existing building required for the temporary duct or will they be allowed to exit a window within the cafeteria?
RESPONSE:
Coordinate with VA for preference of that means/method.
39. Will more information be provided for the relocation of the dust collection unit? RESPONSE:
Coordinate with owner for additional information on dust collection equipment and locations.
40. A note is provided for the fire dampers when penetrating the floor but this note is not represented at all duct penetrations. Will all fire damper, smoke dampers, fire & smoke dampers be listed on a schedule page and located?

45. Per MP101 note 58, will a chase be provided for the existing chilled water lines on ground floor? The current layout indicates the chilled water lines and the freezer (025D) wall occupying the same space. Other floor has chase. RESPONSE:
Existing to remain, lines appear to stop above the freezer on the ground floor. Contractor to verify. Space to the north of the freezer is a mechanical chase between buildings. Lines may reside in this space as well.
46. Per MHD101 note D15 (demolish existing exhaust fan and associated accessories) from the prints it is unclear what this serves. Will a temporary exhaust system need to be provided during phase one construction?
RESPONSE:
Appears to be the pump room. Should be okay as is during construction, confirm with VA. Small temporary system would also be appropriate to keep heat and fumes from building in pump room if phases are extended. Plan to attach new exhaust system and quickly as possible in the transition.
47. Just to the north of the above mentioned exhaust fan there is a 12x12 wall louver that was noticed during the walk. Will this item be identified and instructions provided?
RESPONSE:
Not part of scope area. Appears to be on other side of stairwell, possibly for ventilation.
