About this file

This is a technical specification document for grounding and bonding systems in electrical installations, specifically for Project 554-26-102 (Install Humidification and Control to Pharmacy Cache) under Section 26 05 26. The specification establishes standards for furnishing, installing, connecting, and testing all grounding and bonding equipment, including grounding electrode systems, conductors, and related components in compliance with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and applicable industry standards.

The specification requires equipment grounding conductors to be insulated stranded copper (with specific color coding in continuous green), while bonding conductors must be bare stranded copper. Conductor sizes must meet or exceed NEC requirements and drawing specifications. Above-grade connections require listed bonding jumpers with compression-type connectors for wire sizes No. 8 AWG and larger, mechanical-type lugs for smaller sizes, and zinc-plated steel fasteners torqued to manufacturer specifications. All metallic piping, building structural steel, electrical enclosures, raceways, and conductive items must be bonded and grounded per NEC standards. The specification mandates exothermic-welded connections for inaccessible grounding connections and requires ground resistance testing using the four-terminal fall-of-potential method per IEEE 81 before system energization, conducted in dry conditions at least 48 hours after rainfall. Contractor submittals must include shop drawings showing grounding electrode locations and conductor routing, ground resistance field test reports two weeks prior to final inspection, and certification of proper installation and testing. Quality assurance and installation procedures must conform to Section 26 05 11 (Requirements for Electrical Installations) and manufacturer instructions.
