The purpose of this amendment is to provide answers to RFI's submitted.

Q1: Pertaining to Q3, VA response to RFI seems to confirm that the additional data ports are desired. We count 47 existing data ports and 69 new for a total of 116 data ports after construction is complete. This seems excessive based upon the occupancy of the desks and the equipment we observed in place. Please confirm these numbers of new data ports are indeed to be provided under this contract.

A1: See “Drawings for RFI 2 project 554-20-103.pdf”. Reduce number of data outlets to one per workspace per person. All telecom closet work is complete or will be completed by the VAMC. All data cabling from the telecom room to the new desk areas is in place. The VAMC can run additional cabling if required.

Q2: Pertaining to Q3, Response reads to feed new cabling back to telecom closets. Please confirm cabling is to be ran to the nearest telecom closet shown on each drawing. Please also confirm that termination, punch-down, patch panels, and switches are to be provided by owner.

A2: All telecom closet work is complete or will be completed by the VAMC. The Contractor’s work is limited to connecting existing cabling to the data ports at the desks. Careful demolition is required to not damage existing data cabling to be reused.

Q3: Pertaining to Q4, Response does not answer the question. Please confirm that if there are not enough circuits to feed the shown receptacles per code, additional circuits will be treated as unforeseen condition.

A3: See “Drawings for RFI 2 project 554-20-103.pdf”. Existing power circuits and wiring is used. Careful demolition is required to not damage existing power wiring to be reused.

Q4: Pertaining to Q4, Response states reception desks are modular furniture with whips such as Hermann Miller product, etc. Drawings and specs show custom casework assemblies which would not come pre-wired with factory whips. Please confirm the design intent is to run power through the desks in flexible metal conduit.

A4: Basis of design is to provide furniture with manufacturer installed wiring.

Q5: Pertaining to Q8, Response does not answer the question and other question responses indicate additional cabling from telecom closets is required. Bidders need confirmation that electrical and low voltage work will not take place in the ceiling spaces below the desks.

A5: Design intent is through the wall power and data connections and not to drill through the floor Q6: Pertaining to Q16, Designer deferred question to Owner. Response still needed.

A6: RFI 1 Q16 asked, “Solicitation statement of work requires ICRA level 3, however safety specification 01 35 26 requires only Class 2. The project does not involve activities which generate significant dust. Please confirm only Class 2 is required.” Answer to both RFI 1 Q16 and RFI 2 Q6: Use ICRA Class II Precautions. If ICRA Class II Precautions do not keep dust from escaping the work areas, then take corrective actions. The corrective actions may include HEPA filter negative air pressure units.
