About this file
This document is a Request for Information (RFI) spreadsheet for VA Project 537-24-102, a Mental Health Safety Deficiencies correction project at Jesse Brown VA Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois. The solicitation (36C25225B0016) involves multiple construction modifications, including installing ligature-resistance features such as new sliding doors, door closers, built-in desks, and cubbies. Key RFI responses clarify project specifics, including confirmation that existing built-in units will be replaced, the Superintendent can fulfill Quality Control Manager and Site Safety & Health Officer roles, and photographic documentation can be performed by the general contractor.
The solicitation has undergone multiple amendments extending the bid opening date to September 10, 2025, with virtual bid submission via email to specific VA contacts. Contractors are required to submit a VA Notice of Limitations on Subcontracting as part of their bid package. The project involves detailed specifications for door hardware, with specific requirements like using LCN 4510T SMOOTHEE door closers, which are the only ligature-resistance door closers approved by the Office of Mental Health. Two pre-bid site visits were conducted, and the RFI/Questions period has been extended multiple times to accommodate contractor inquiries and ensure comprehensive bid preparation.

| 14 | I am writing regarding Solicitation 36C25225B0016 – Correct Mental Health Safety Deficiencies, Project #537-24-102 at Jesse Brown VA Medical Center, Chicago, IL. | The Bid opening is extended to 9/10/25 |
| Due to the complexity of the scope (ligature-resistant sliding doors, desks/cubbies, and door closers), as well as the need to coordinate with multiple vendors for compliance and wage determination requirements, we respectfully request a 30-day extension of the proposal due date. This additional time will allow us to gather complete vendor quotations, ensure Davis-Bacon Act compliance, and compile a fully responsive bid package. | ||
| We believe granting this extension will result in more competitive and complete proposals, ultimately benefiting the Government. | ||
| Thank you for your consideration, and we look forward to your confirmation. | ||
| 15 | I wanted to check in to see if there is any consideration being given to extending the bid due date, currently scheduled for Monday at 10:00 AM. As of now, we are still awaiting responses to several RFIs, which are important for completing our proposal accurately. | The Bid opening is extended to 9/10/25 |
| It would be helpful to know as soon as possible if there’s any update or change to the bid timeline. Please advise at your earliest convenience. | ||
| 16 | Just following up on the above project, I did not see anything else issued in regards to the door schedule and hardware sets per the RFI’s, will that be released? Will the date also be extended for this one, since there was nothing issued as of yet? | Please continue to monitor SAM.gov |
