About this file

This document contains a compilation of pre-bid requests for information (RFIs) related to a federal construction contract opportunity for the Department of Veterans Affairs titled "Z1DA--Fix Legionella Deficiencies Construction Project 676-22-101".

The RFIs cover various aspects of the solicitation, including bid submission requirements, tax exemption, staffing qualifications, work phasing, shutdown notice periods, ICRA barrier specifications, water metering responsibilities, and potential asbestos and lead-based paint abatement. The responses provide clarification on these topics, such as the requirement to submit hard-copy proposals, the project not being tax-exempt, approval needed for the superintendent to also perform safety duties, and the need for 1-hour rated ICRA barriers if fire suppression or alarm systems are affected. Additionally, the document includes product information on a free chlorine sensor that may be an acceptable equivalent to the one specified.

16 US Vet Asbestos Abatement per section 02 82 11, 02 82 13.13, & 02 82.13.19 The abatement specs noted indicate the extent of work as "TBD". Is ACM abatement required on this project?

The VA's recollection is these specification sections were left in for use if needed once construction began.

The VA does not know of any ACM or lead paint interfering with the construction areas and locations involved with the Legionella Project at the Tomah VAMC. Direction at this time is to have contractors add a CONTINGENCY amount of $25,000.00 for abatement.

Principle Of Opera on

The membraned amperometric chlorine sensors, are enhanced with a third, reference electrode which eliminates zero dri . Its unique design means that pH correc on is not usually required at all, completely elimina ng reagents.

In addi on to the state of the art poten osta c chronoamper-ometric free chlorine and total chlorine sensors, the HaloSense range of residual chlorine analysers has all the func onality that you need, and more. Simply choose the CRIUS® controller op-ons to give you the highest quality chlorine analyser, with all the func onality you need at the lowest price possible.

The HaloSense comes with a number of sensors including free chlorine, total chlorine and free chlorine ‘zero’.

CO2 Buff ering

As alterna ve to pH compensa on is the use of CO2 to surpress the pH such that changes in the pH of the sample do not aff ect the chlorine reading.

Autofl ush

As described in a separate brochure, the HaloSense can come equipped to automa cally clean itself at user defi ned intervals with all the benefi ts of no operator interven on. The Autofl ush is par cularly useful in food prepara on, pulp and paper, waste water and many applica ons where there is likely to be a build up of solids in the sample.

pH Compensa on

For some applica ons with high and variable pH, pH compensa-on can improve the accuracy of the chlorine readings. For pH compensa on to be valid it must be done with the highest quality pH sensors and with chlorine sensors that have a reduced suscep-bility to varying pH, such as those used in the HaloSense range of chlorine analyzers.

Installa on

The HaloSense can be installed in a variety of auxiliary fl ow cells and selfcleaning devices.
