About this file

This document is a technical specification for radiation shielding doors and frames for the Lieutenant Colonel Charles S. Kettles VA Medical Center Facilities Maintenance Upgrades project. The specification details requirements for 1-3/4 inch radiation shielding swinging doors with specific technical specifications, including a flush panel design, vertical steel-stiffener core, minimum 16 gauge steel thickness, and a 1/16-inch lead core for radiation protection. Manufacturers must comply with multiple ANSI/SDI and ASTM standards, with approved manufacturers including Ambico Ltd., CECO Door Products, Curries Company, and Overly Door Company.

The document provides comprehensive installation guidelines, including precise clearance requirements (1/8 inch for jambs and heads, maximum 3/4 inch between door bottom and floor), surface hardware preparation, and field quality control procedures. The specification requires a 5-year manufacturer's warranty and includes detailed requirements for door fabrication, including continuous welded vertical edges, reinforced top and bottom edges, and specific finish treatments. Field testing will be performed at the conclusion of work in each phase, with additional testing at the contractor's expense if defects are found.
