RFI Responses:
1. Question: I received a RFI from Wiltse Electric – there is no fire alarm work indicated on the drawings. Will the electrical contractor have any scope of work in regard to the existing fire alarm system?
Answer: Contractor to refer to Fire alarm work covered in sheets FA001 – FA101B, as well as any information shown in specifications for specifics.
2. Question: Will the data wiring indicated on the low voltage drawings be included in the electrical contractor’s scope of work or is this work provided by a VA vendor directly for the owner? If provided by the electrical contractor, please provide the vendor’s contact information.
Answer: Yes, this is in the electrical contactor’s scope. Reach out to Johnson Controls/Simplex for further information.
3. Question: Please verify if blast resistant is required for the windows. The first-floor windows are operable, which in many cases do not need the blast resistance, however since this is the first floor of a VA hospital, confirmation is needed.
Answer: Per VA Guideline Manual. Refer to spec section 08 80 00 for additional requirements regarding laminated glass
Question: Will a phase have to be 100% complete before the next phase is started?
Answer: According to phasing plans, phases need to be complete before the next phase is started. Phases should not run concurrently. Refer to general construction notes, item 1 on
GC101 – GC104.
4. Question: Will the area being worked in be occupied during construction? If so, will the work have to be done during off hours and weekends?
Answer: Space is intended to be occupied during construction. Phasing drawings show swing space to be provided for staff during construction. The only “after hours” work that is planned would be toward the end of the project, for corridor finish completion.
5. Question: If a room that is getting a new fan coil unit is also fed by and existing reheat coil should the existing reheat coil be reconfigured to work in conjunction with the new
FCU?
Answer: PROVIDE/INSTALL DUCT TEMPERATURE SENSOR DOWNSTREAM OF REHEAT
COILS. CONTROL TO SUPPLY AIR DISCHARGE TEMPERATURE. RESET LEAVING AIR
TEMPERATURE BASED ON OUTSIDE AIR TEMPERATURE:
SEQUENCE OF OPERATION: IF THE DISCHARGE AIR TEMPERATURE FALLS BELOW ITS
SETPOINT, THE HEATING HOT WATER CONTROL VALVE SHALL MODULATE TO
MAINTAIN THE DISCHARGE AIR TEPMERATURE SETPOINT, 55 TO 70 ADJ.
6. Question: What is the desired top treatment for the roller shades?
Answer: Painted metal fascia for roller shades.
7. Question: Finish key (sheet ID100) and Equipment Schedule (sheet A1400) have conflicting fabrics/styles listed. Should we assume Draper or Mecho are acceptable and all shades are double roller with a blackout shade and a 3% shade? Rooms A104 and
A106 have roller shade “1” tag on drawings (sheet ID101) but these rooms are not included in the Finish Schedule (sheet ID100). Was this “1” tag intended to indicate the new wall construction?
Answer: Manufacturers are listed solely as basis of design. All roller shades are to be double with a blackout shade and a 3” open shade. Disregard tag “1” in rooms A104 and A106 as those are an existing audio booth and control room with no access to the exterior windows
8. Question: We are looking to find information on which glass is being used for the window details shown on AI600. The floor plans would indicate there are no walls behind these windows thus it would not be spandrel glass (IG-1).Thus, would it be (IG-2) low-e clear vision insulated glass, (IG-3) low-e opaque vision glass, or a mixture of both?
Answer: Spandrel glass should not be needed. Opaque glass should not be needed.
Contractor to review existing adjacent glazing used and match existing reflectance and thermal
U value; refer to specifications for further detail.
