Alternate 1 indicates to delete the build-out of several spaces as indicated in drawings indicated by “ALT” within the drawing number. We have the following questions regarding this as follows:

36.1

· Please define build-out. Does this mean that we are to demo everything and then not build it back? Please clarify.

Refer to provided missing Architectural "-ALT" drawings.

36.2

· The Architectural Drawings do not have any drawings with an ALT. Please provide coordinated Architectural drawings with the MEP’s. Scope of Architectural work is unknown without drawings depicting the work.

Refer to provided missing Architectural "-ALT" drawings.

36.3

· Please provide alternate demolition drawings that are coordinated with the MEP’s and ALT asbestos abatement plan.

Refer to provided missing Architectural "-ALT" drawings.

36.4

· Sheet MD102.2A indicates that only a portion of the ductwork and piping is to be removed but it is unclear as to how this plan sheet coordinates with the description of alternate 1 that indicates to delete the “build-out” of the existing spaces. This is also evident on the other MEP disciplines plan sheets.

Refer to provided missing Architectural "-ALT" drawings.

Alternate 2 & 3 indicates to delete the build-out of the new general OR’s 2010 and 2020, respectively, and construct in the same manner as other new storage rooms within the project.

Just to confirm we should follow the finish schedule for room 2100 Storage for all finish requirements.

Yes.

Specification Section 01 00 00 1.6 Operations and Storage Areas, Item H call for construction fencing around the construction site. Please advise on where this fencing is to be installed.

Means and methods. Contractor to coordinate with VA for access.

Specification Section 01 00 00 1.18 Availability and Use of Utility Services indicates that the

Contractor will pay for electrical usage. It also states that the Contractor shall install a meter and record the monthly usage. In previous experience with the VA, this has not been required.

Please advise whether this is required or not.

As stated in Spec Section 01 00 00, the contractor can use VA provided electrical service except for large usage devices such as lifts or cranes.

Contractor at contractor's expense would install meter and pay for electric for those large pieces of equipment.

Specification 01 35 26 1.9 Inspections, Item B indicates that a Certified Safety Professional is required to randomly conduct monthly site safety inspections. Is this service to be provided and paid for by the Contractor?

Yes

Specification Section 01 45 00 1.5 QC Organization, Item 1.5.1 indicates that the a 3 rd party (not an employee of the contractor) is required at the work site to implement and manage the QC program and report directly to the VA. Just to confirm, this is required and it is to be provided for and paid for by the Contractor. This will become a conflict of interest and could result in issues with who is responsible for timely submittal transmissions, considering these individual reports directly to the VA.

Remove 1st sentence of Spec Section 01 45 00 item 1.5.1.1. The contractor is required to manage his own Quality Control program. All other wording in that section is valid. Contractor's QC will be required to be on site but will answer to the general contract. General Contractor will submit/report QC requirements to the VA.

Are the occupants of the 3 rd floor perimeter offices going to vacate for the entire construction period?

No, only when direct work is associate with that room . To be coordinated between the contractor and the VA.

On plan sheet A202.1A, Ceiling Note 4 states to provide unistrut system as specified. We cannot locate a specification for this system or an anticipated layout for the equipment.

Relocate and modify exisitng as required.

The evaluation criteria listed in the RFP will be utilized.

On plan sheet S10PB, there are 4 foundations (along Column line N on plan sheet S10PB) that require compaction grouting of the soil to 7000 psf. In order to price this scope of work, please provide a geotechnical report and a specification for the compaction grouting.

Refer to questions #3, #4, and #5 above.

Please provide pictures of the columns on plan sheet S10PB along column line N and column lines 13 through 16 as they were not visible during the site visit nor are they shown on in the pictures within the drawings.

Photos not available.

Please provide the elevations of the floors and beams above (connection point at the top of the columns) that are being supported by the columns and foundations that are scheduled for expansion or modification on sheet S10PB. This information will be needed to determine the height of the columns that require modifications (to quantify how much concrete will be necessary) and the amount of existing vertical headroom space for working.

Top of existing footings is shown on sheet S10PB. Top of First Floor slab is elevation 226'-0". First Floor slab is approximately 9.5" thick with 3.5" drop panels (13" total) at columns. Top of Second floor slab is 238'-10

5/8". Second Floor beams are approximately 24" deep. All dimensions are from the original structural drawings which can be provided by the COR for reference.

The basement level will need to be accessed to make the required modifications per plan sheet

S10PB. We have the following questions and requests as it pertains to this required work:

47.1

· Please provide a scaled drawing to identify the ingress/ egress paths and construction route to access the basement level to make the required modifications. On this drawing, please provide the location that the contractor may set-up the pump on the exterior of the building and the route of the pump piping.

Means and methods. Contractor to coordinate with VA for access.

47.2

· Will all of the columns and foundations be able to be accessed from one entry point into the basement?

Means and methods. Contractor to coordinate with VA for access.

Based on the picture of column 17k, it appears that the column runs through a block wall. Are we only increasing the size of the column from the foundation to the beam shown in the picture

(detail 3 on sheet S704) or are we supposed to demolish the cmu and increase the size of the column through the block wall?

Column 17K is to be reinforced from the top of footing to the underside of the Second Floor structure (roof beam). The CMU wall is to be partially demolished as required to reinforce the column then rebuilt back to weathertight condition.

If we are to remove the CMU per the question above, we will need more information on how this is to be accomplished. For instance, how much block will be allowed to be removed and what is on the other side of this block wall?

Remove the quantity of block required to access and form the column reinforcing (16" minimum each side, floor to underside of structure). Per

AD100B, a corridor is on the other side of the CMU wall.

Based on the picture on sheet S705, column 18j appears to be integrated into a concrete wall or this is not the correct picture. How will this column be accessed to make the required modifications? Will the concrete wall require demolition? What is on the other side of the concrete wall shown in the picture?

Column reinforcing is to occur on the backside of the wall in the occupied space from grade to the underside of First Floor. Concrete wall will not need demolition.

Plan Sheet AD100B shows demolition and new work in the basement. Is this the pipe basement as shown on sheet S10PB?

Yes.

Please provide the location on a drawing indicating the area that we will be allowed to set-up a crane and access to the roof for the new addition.

Means and methods. Contractor to coordinate with VA for access.

Will a laydown yard be made available next to the crane set-up location? If so, how large of a laydown yard will be permitted?

Means and methods. Contractor to coordinate with VA for access.
