About this file
The document is a Notice to Owner from the City of Santa Cruz and the California Department of Transportation for the Murray Street Bridge Seismic Retrofit and Barrier Replacement project, issued to Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E). The notice orders PG&E to relocate overhead electrical lines and remove poles from the north side of Murray Street to accommodate the bridge widening project. The work is scheduled tentatively from January 31, 2025, to March 20, 2025, with PG&E required to relocate two electric distribution poles and overhead lines, construct a new pad mount transformer in the west harbor, and remove all overhead poles as specified in their plan dated May 1, 2024.
The project's utility relocation costs will be 100% covered by PG&E under the City's Franchise Agreement, as the facilities were originally installed pursuant to the franchise. PG&E indicates they will require a minimum of 12 months to complete the work once notification to proceed is received. The project involves detailed utility coordination, including conduit casings to be constructed by the City's contractor, electrical line pulling by PG&E, and the establishment of electrical vaults. Communication protocols are established, requiring the City's contractor to notify PG&E 60 days prior to work commencement and PG&E to provide 96-hour and 24-hour advance notifications for their respective work activities.
