About this file
Summary
This is a technical specification document for concrete manholes issued by Herbert, Rowland & Grubic, Inc. for the Weaverland Valley Authority's North Earl Street Low Pressure Sanitary Sewer Extension Project (Project No. 011361.0461) in Pennsylvania. The specification establishes comprehensive requirements for furnishing and installing modular precast Portland cement concrete manholes with tongue-and-groove joints, including a 5-foot diameter cleanout manhole and connections to existing manholes. The document details acceptable manufacturers (Monarch Precast Concrete and Terre-Hill Precast), required materials meeting ASTM standards (4,500 psi Type II reinforced concrete), frames and covers from approved suppliers (EJ or Neenah cast iron compliant with AASHTO H-20 Highway Loading Class), riser rings for grade adjustment, heat-shrinkable encapsulation systems, and various accessories including resilient gasket pipe opening seals, joint sealants, stainless steel fasteners, and manhole adapters. Installation requirements specify proper bedding on AASHTO No. 57 aggregate or PennDOT 2A, compacted crushed-stone support systems, plumb and level placement with correct elevations, assembly procedures for multisection manholes, frame and cover installation with grade ring adjustments not exceeding twelve inches, and watertight connections to existing facilities via core drilling and expandable sleeve adapters. Field quality control includes vacuum testing of concrete manhole sections per Section 33 05 05.36 and visual leakage testing for rectangular sections.
The specification mandates manufacturer qualifications of minimum three years' documented experience, submission of product data, shop drawings indicating structure locations and pipe penetrations, manufacturer's certificates of compliance with Pennsylvania Steel Products Procurement Act requirements, detailed installation and handling instructions, and field quality control test results. Storage and handling must comply with precast concrete manufacturer instructions and ASTM C913, with materials protected from moisture and dust in clean, dry locations. Cold weather installation must comply with ACI 530/530.1 standards. The document references related specification sections for aggregates, trenching, and vacuum testing, establishing comprehensive quality assurance protocols and material sourcing requirements for the sanitary sewer infrastructure project.
