About this file
This is a geotechnical report prepared by Bechtol Engineering and Testing, Inc. (BET) for Coastal Tech-G.E.C., Inc. and Mr. Tem Fontaine, P.E., dated September 27, 2024, in support of the Egret Avenue Beach Access seawall replacement project in Port Orange, Volusia County, Florida. The report documents subsurface soil conditions and engineering parameters necessary for the design and construction of a replacement boardwalk landing and sheet pile bulkhead at the project site (Parcel # 631202000003). BET conducted one Standard Penetration Test (SPT) boring to a depth of 40 feet below existing ground surface to evaluate the physical and strength characteristics of shallow subsurface soils. The boring location plan and resulting soil profiles are presented on Figure 1, which identifies five distinct soil layers composed primarily of fine sand with varying densities and shell content, ranging from light gray-brown to dark gray colorations. Groundwater was measured at 2.0 feet below existing ground surface on September 16, 2024.
The report provides suggested soil parameters for design purposes, including friction angles ranging from 30.0 to 42.1 degrees, cohesion values of zero kilogram-force per square foot across all layers, modulus of subgrade reaction values ranging from 43.7 to 197.2 pounds per cubic inch, and unit weights between 55.4 and 81.83 pounds per cubic foot. Additional parameters include relative density percentages, strain at 50 percent stress values, and earth pressure coefficients (at rest, active, and passive). The report was prepared under Project No. G24132 and was sealed by Love B. Patel, P.E. (Florida Professional Engineer License No. 90753), with field work and verification completed on September 23, 2024. This geotechnical data serves as a foundational technical document to support the design engineer's development of structural specifications for the seawall and boardwalk components of the larger Heron Street, Egret Avenue, and Mallard Street Seawall Replacement Project.

RE: Report of Geotechnical Data
Egret Avenue Beach Access
Parcel # 631202000003
Port Orange, Volusia County, Florida
Dear Mr. Fontaine:
As requested, Bechtol Engineering and Testing, Inc. (BET) has provided geotechnical services at the above referenced project site. The purpose of BET’s services was to evaluate physical and strength characteristics of subsurface materials encountered by test boring within the probable construction area of a replacement board walk landing and sheet pile bulkhead, and based on these characteristics, to provide soil parameters for use in sheet pile, bulkhead, and boardwalk landing design (by others).
In order to evaluate the physical and strength characteristics of the site’s shallow subsurface soils, BET advanced one (1) Standard Penetration Test (SPT) boring (ASTM D1586) adjacent to the probable construction areas, to a depth of 40 feet below existing ground surface. Approximate location of the boring is shown on the Boring Location Plan presented on the attached Figure 1. Encountered subsurface conditions are presented in the form of Soil Profiles, also shown on Figure 1. Additionally, Suggested Soil Parameters are tabulated on Figure 1 to aid the Design Engineer in the design and construction of the replacement board walk landing and sheet pile bulkhead structures.
BET appreciates the opportunity to be of service, and trusts the attached geotechnical data is sufficient for your needs. However, if you should have any questions, or if BET may be of further service, please do not hesitate to call.
Respectfully, Bechtol Engineering and Testing, Inc.
