About this file
This is Addendum No. 2 to the Vault Room and Oil Room Project for Sarasota County, Florida, issued by Wendel on August 12, 2026, under Project No. 262820MKM. The addendum establishes specific requirements for the contractor's coordination and installation of infrastructure related to the Genfare fareboxes system and associated data collection equipment at the Breeze Transit facility. Prior to project commencement, the contractor must coordinate an on-site meeting with County staff to document and photograph existing Genfare infrastructure configurations, as certain components will remain in place during construction. The contractor is responsible for providing one 2.5" rigid metal conduit (RMC) with three 16"x16"x6" pull boxes running from the Maintenance IDF to the workroom, along with CAT6E cable and mule tape for future access. Additionally, the contractor must install two 2.5" conduits via surface mount to the bus wash building, through the chiller plant walls, and via trench between the vault room and maintenance areas—one conduit terminating at the Maintenance Electrical Room and one at the IDF room. All exterior conduit must be rigid metal exterior-rated and painted to match the building. The County retains responsibility for relocating and reinstalling the Genfare probing system before and after the vault area renovation, while the contractor must ensure all existing equipment and accessories remaining in place are preserved without damage or alteration.
The addendum includes technical specifications for the Genfare Data System hardware and infrastructure, which comprises data probes, junction boxes, an isolation box for multiplexing up to four lanes, a cashbox ID computer where applicable, and a Hewlett-Packard z230 Data System Computer with dual 1TB hard drives in RAID 1 configuration, 8GB RAM, Windows 7 Pro, serial adapter boards, HP monitor, and laser printer. The system requires installation in a climate-controlled environment maintained at 60-90 degrees Fahrenheit with 20-80% relative humidity, 110 VAC 60Hz power supply providing 330VA, and positioning within 1000 feet of the farebox probing area and 12 feet of a grounded outlet. The Isolation Box and any Cashbox ID Computer must connect to an Uninterrupted Power Supply, and all system components must be mounted on walls within specified distances to minimize cable runs and interference.

Project 262820MKM Vault Room and Oil Room Project
Addendum No. 2
Contract
Wendel Project No. 630001 Date 8.12.2026
ARTICLE - 1 DRAWING NO. Wiring Diagram
Prior to start of project, contractor shall:
• Coordinate on site meeting with County staff to review existing Genfare infrastructure. This shall include documentation and photos of existing system configurations as some Genfare components will remain in place during project.
• During course of project, all existing equipment, conduits and Genfare associated Accessories that will remain in place will be preserved. Caution must be taken to ensure that said components are not damaged or altered.
• County staff will be responsible for relocating Genfare probing system to temporary location for duration of the project. County staff will reinstall probing system at completion of vault area renovation.
SPEC
SECTION N/A
ARTICLE - 2 DRAWING NO. N/A
Contractor shall provide one, 2.5” RMC type, rigid metal conduit with (3) 16”x16”x 6” pull boxes from Maintenance IDF to workroom. Contractor shall provide one CAT6E cable in above said conduit with mule tape for future access.
ARTICLE - 3 DRAWING NO. N/A
Contractor shall provide two, 2.5” conduits by way of surface mount to bus wash building, inside of chiller plant walls (mount high on wall) and trench between vault room and Maintenance Electrical room and IDF room. One conduit goes to the Maintenance Electrical Room and one goes to the IDF room.
This will be for future communications. Mule tape shall be installed in each conduit. All exterior conduit to be RMC type, rigid metal, exterior rated and painted to match building when mounted to building.
Data Probe
The Data Probe is used to extract data from the fareboxes. The standard Data Probe cable is 25 feet long and is connected to a Junction Box. The assembly is ruggedly constructed to withstand shock and to allow it to function in a harsh, outdoors environment.
The Data Probe cable is attached to a Probe Retractor Assembly, which is used primarily to keep the probe cable off the ground.
A cylindrical holder is supplied with each Data Probe to provide storage for the Probe while it is not being used.
The number of Data Probes to be used determines the components required for a particular site. A variety of configurations are possible.
Junction Box
Designed to be installed outdoors, the Junction Box is rainproof. The box can be attached to the data pole (if applicable) or any other nearby structure. One Junction Box is required for each Data Probe; it provides a means for easy connection or removal of the Data Probe Assembly. Each Junction Box is also connected to the Isolation Box. To protect against theft of Data Probes, the Junction Box can be locked.
Multiplexing Isolation Box
The Isolation Box is mounted on a wall within 12 feet of the Data System Computer. It contains a power supply and opto-isolators to protect the Computer from any damage to the Data Probes caused by lightning, noise, or vandalism. Each Junction Box (usually attached to a Data Probe) is connected to the
Isolation Box and the Isolation Box is attached to the Data System Computer.
“Multiplexing” means a single communication channel services up to four lanes. In this case, the channel goes from the Data Probe (and Farebox) to the Data System Computer. Each lane is momentarily checked for activity. If a farebox is found, a dialog begins and data is transferred. This data transmission may take up to 12 seconds, depending upon how many route/run records have been stored. During this period of time, the other lanes are ignored. In actual use, four lanes can be serviced with no noticeable delay.
Cashbox I.D. Computer
The Cashbox I.D. Computer is included only for locations where the Cashbox I.D. option is to be installed.
It should be mounted on a wall with 12 feet of the Data System Computer. Each vault is connected to the Cashbox I.D. Computer and the Cashbox I. D. Computer is attached to the Data System Computer
Interconnect Cables
The Isolation Box is connected to each Junction Box by an interconnect cable that minimizes noise interference. The cable consists of several pairs of shielded twisted wire. To simplify installation, installation, terminal strips are inside the Isolation Box and Junction Box. If the Cashbox I.D. Computer is to be installed, a similar type of cable is used to connect it to each vault using the terminal strips inside the Computer.

Genfare Data System Hardware Installation
The Computer should be installed in a clean, air conditioned environment, maintained at 60-90°
Fahrenheit, 20% to 80% relative humidity, within 1000 feet of the farebox probing area. When selecting a site, allow sufficient desk space for the printer and keyboard as well as the system unit itself. A number of cables will be plugged into the back of the Data System Computer, so allow sufficient working room.
The Data System Computer should be within 12 feet of a grounded 110 VAC wall outlet. Make sure the outlet will not be accidentally turned off at night or on weekends. If your system includes a modem, the phone jack for the Computer’s telephone line must be nearby (a 7 foot modular line cord is normally provided, but longer lengths may be purchased from a phone supply store).
A wall location is needed for mounting the Isolation Box to connect it with the Data System Computer, using the I/O Cable (12 feet long) provided. The power cord from the Isolation Box will be plugged into the UPS, so make sure it is within reach. If the Cashbox I.D. option is to be installed, the Cashbox I.D.
Computer must be mounted on a wall within 12 feet of the data Computer. The Cashbox I.D. Computer must be plugged into the UPS.
