d. The sealant shall be cast and cured in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations, except that the curing period shall be not less than 24 hours.
e. Following the curing period, the gap between the blocks shall be widened to 1-1/2 inches, and spacers shall be used to maintain this gap for 24 hours prior to inspection for failure.
E. Expansion Joint Testing for Structures
1. Provide low-pressure testing of structural expansion joints to be used in submerged applications in accordance with the requirements of Section 01 74 40 – Concrete Structure Testing.
1.6 SPECIAL CORRECTION OF DEFECTS REQUIREMENT
A. The CONTRACTOR shall furnish a 5-year written warranty of the entire sealant installation against faulty and/or incompatible materials and workmanship, together with a statement that the CONTRACTOR agrees to repair or replace, to the satisfaction of the GOVERNMENT, any defective areas which become evident within the 5-year period.
PART 2 -- PRODUCTS
2.1 WATERSTOPS
A. PVC Waterstops for Canal Lining
1. The PVC strips shall be manufactured with the weights specified on the drawings and shapes conforming to the dimensions shown on the drawings, and shall be extruded from virgin, pigmented, plasticized PVC.
2. The PVC shall be designed, fabricated, and packaged to facilitate automatic installation.
3. The PVC shall be as manufactured by Vinylex Corp., of Knoxville, TN or Greenstreak Plastic Products, St. Louis, MO., or approved equal. The finished PVC strip shall meet the following minimum requirements:
Tensile strength (lb/in2) 1,400 Ultimate elongation (%) 280 Stiffness in flexure, 1/2-inch span (lb/in2) 400
4. The CONTRACTOR shall submit a manufacturer's certification for the PVC compound used for fabricating the strip. The certification shall include material identification, reel number, quantity represented, and certified physical property test results performed by the manufacturer or other laboratory covering all of the test requirements for the PVC compound. The CONTRACTOR shall be responsible for the accuracy of the manufacturer's certification.
