About this file
This document contains specifications for a federal construction contract solicitation. The solicitation is for the FKC Middle Reach Capacity Correction Project Phase 1 being issued by the Department of the Interior Bureau of Reclamation. The contractor will be responsible for dewatering activities during construction including lowering the groundwater level below structure subgrades, maintaining groundwater levels during backfilling, preventing canal structures from floating, draining any remaining water in the existing canal after gravity draining by the government, and draining existing irrigation ponds in conflict with the work. The contractor must drain water left in the existing canal as the maximum anticipated depth is approximately 8 feet of standing water at the low point near Station 5700+00.

STANTEC/184031016 DEWATERING
FKC MIDDLE REACH CAPACITY CORRECTION PROJECT PHASE 1 PAGE 31 23 19 - 5
3.3 DEWATERING FOR STRUCTURES
A. Before excavating to final grade at structure locations that require dewatering, the groundwater level shall be lowered to a depth below the structure subgrade sufficient to prevent rutting or other damage to the foundation; provided that, the groundwater level shall be a minimum of 2 feet below the working level or final grade at all times.
The water level shall be maintained at that level until the backfill work has been completed to a point 2 feet above the groundwater level or if necessary, until the canal is filled, except that in all cases, the CONTRACTOR is responsible for preventing floatation of the structures.
3.4 DEWATERING THE EXISTING CANAL
A. The CONTRACTOR will be responsible to drain water that is left in the existing canal during canal outages after the GOVERNMENT has drained all water out of the existing canal that can be drained by gravity, as they typically would for a normal canal outage.
B. Refer to the Hydraulic Profile Drawings GC-6 and GC-7 for the existing canal invert and low points where canal water will accumulate after the GOVERNMENT has drained the existing canal by gravity. A maximum depth of approximately 8 feet of standing water is anticipated to remain for CONTRACTOR removal at the existing canal low point near Station 5700+00. This water depth will reduce depending on location along the existing canal and distance from the low point at Sta 5700+00.
Refer to Specification Section 01 14 00 – Construction Constraints and Sequencing for further requirements.
3.5 DEWATERING EXISTING IRRIGATION PONDS
A. The CONTRACTOR will be responsible to drain the existing irrigation ponds in conflict with the WORK as shown on Drawings C-17, C-18, C-22, C-23, C-40, and C- 44, unless otherwise indicated.
