Question & Answers Amendment 0002
Q10. The enclosed attic areas that are present, does the sub-contractor follow the specifications or NFPA code? NFPA code states that enclosed attic area with combustible material must have a dry port. I believe we have 3 of these.
A10. 360 - The attic area above Hall 108 has an electric unit heater of adequate size to maintain the space temperature above freezing even in the absence of roof insulation. Any other enclosed space that is unheated and uninsulated requiring a sprinkler head may be provided with a dry-barrel device type head. Otherwise the system should be completely wet pipe. NFPA 13 takes precedent over the specifications.
Q11. Can designs fire suppression utilize both dry and wet for the most efficient and cost effective?
A11. 360 - Any unheated and uninsulated enclosed space requiring a sprinkler head may be provided with a dry-barrel device type head. Otherwise the system should be completely wet pipe.
Q12. Do we include page 2/3 and page 12 from the solicitation packet or is there more than that included from the packet?
A12. Please see Section L of the solicitation which describes what is required in each volume pertaining to your proposal submission.
Q13. Is the Forest Stuartship Stamp is required on all dementional lumber?
A13. AH – No, per section 061000 it should be sustainably harvested wood. We will accept multiple certifications, it does not have to be FSC.
Q14. Can Hem Fur be substituted for the Douglas Fur?
A14. JVA - No. The structure was designed using the Douglas-Fir species and we understand that the product is available locally.
Q15. What type of Weather Barrier will be used on the Exterior of the building? Both product called out in Spec refer to foundation coatings.
A15. AH – At brick, use building paper as specified in Section 042001, 2.5 C.
At stucco, use 2 layers of Grade D asphalt saturated kraft building paper, or 1 layer of kraft building paper plus paper backed lath.
Q16. Detail at eave shows two different ways of install of (1X) T & G decking. Are we installing only at eaves and rakes where exposed per the structural? Roof Sheeting is called out as 15/32 O.S.B and will not match up perfectly to 3/4” (1x) decking. Is this acceptable?
A16. AH – Sheathing is installed on entire roof. T&G is installed between rafters and affixed below the sheathing.
Q17. Can the Government release water pressure information to the public as it is not available for public release now. This information is used to determine of the building needs a fire pump or not.
A17. Currently there is a 6-inch water main to the south of the Visitor Center as shown on the Utility Plan, the water main is adequate and can supply approximately up to 550gpm fire flow.
Q18. If the system calls for a complete wet system the entire structure, including the attic space, would need to be in the heated envelope of the building. If this is the case there are two options, which one is the appropriate method:
1. Install a dry pipe valve for these spaces
2. Other to install at the roof line, not on the ceiling.
A18. 360 - The attic area above Hall 108 has an electric unit heater of adequate size to maintain the space temperature above freezing even in the absence of roof insulation. Any other enclosed space that is unheated and uninsulated requiring a sprinkler head may be provided with a dry-barrel device type head. Otherwise the system should be completely wet pipe.
Q19. Where in the specifications do they list all of the bid options?
A19. The bid options can be found on Page 12 of the solicitation document, “Section B - Price Schedule”
Q20. N7 called out on page A5.0/2 at location above retail office. Area is indicated as receiving all hard lids. Is this note misplaced?
A20. N7 and the associated leader indicates the roofing over the office. N28 provides direction for the ceiling finish in the Retail Office (113).
Q21. Sheer walls (SW6) appear to be located on interior wall types (4.1) which do not indicate 7/16 sheeting per the schedule on page G0.5. Are these walls required to build out per the sheer wall notes on page S1.2? If so will both sides of the wall receive 7/16 OSB? Will doors 110B; 113, and 114 all be affected? Plan is not clear on the length of the (2) SW6 walls that are shown.
A21. JVA - Yes, they are structural shear walls and they require 7/16” panel sheathing on one side of the wall (refer to details that show which side of wall) as well as blocking at panel edges. Interior shear wall lengths can be identified by noting the walls that are cross hatched on the plan; see also sketches below provided for clarity. AH –At doors, extend jambs to match total wall assembly thickness.
