Responses to Questions Received for
Timpanogos Cave
May 14, 2018
Question (1): Where will workers be allowed to park?
Answer: Construction parking will only be allowed within the construction limits of work.
Question (2): Will canyon passes be needed for every vehicle that goes to the jobsite?
Answer: There will be no fee required at the information station and we can issue passes as necessary for construction equipment and personnel.
Question (3): Specification section 033300.3.1.B.1 states that form ties are not allowed in the board formed concrete but down the page in 3.3.A.1 it mentions the removal of fiberglass ties.
Please confirm or deny that it is acceptable to use fiberglass form ties?
Answer: Form ties are not allowed on the board formed concrete. Fiberglass form ties are not acceptable.
Question (4) – We had a sub mention that the glass makeup of the specs won’t meet the U-value:.27 or the solar heat gain coefficient: .24?
Answer: The basis of design product is PPG, Solar Ban, Solar Control Low-E Glass. Clear Glass is specified which should have a solar heat gain co-efficient of 0.42 (both insulating glass and insulating-laminated-glass per Spec 08 80 00).
Question (5) - I have attached a few items, typical drawings, design loads, and the cut sheet for the Maccaferri 500 kJ rockfall barrier. Maccaferri is the only competition to GeoBurgg in the United States, and our rockfall systems are tested and certified in the European sector by ETAG 027 the same as the GeoBrugg systems. We would like clarification that the Maccaferri RMC 500 kJ system is approved ‘as equal’ for the purpose of bidding the rockfall barrier portion of the Replace/Relocate Timpanogos Cave Visitor Center that bids on May 16th.
Answer: Yes, the proposed welded wire mesh size WWF 4 x 4 W4.0 is an approved substitution.
Question (6) - For the temporary 4 inch thick shotcrete facing, the design has welded wire mesh 4 x 4 W6.5. That is a very thick gauge wire mesh that is not available in the area. Special order out of California or Arizona is likely but still expensive and difficult. In lieu of the 6.5 gauge mesh could we plan on installing the more typical welded wire mesh 4 x 4 W4.0? That WWM should meet structural calculations for a temporary construction facing.
Answer: Yes, the proposed welded wire mesh size WWF 4 x 4 W4.0 is an approved substitution.
Question (7) - Have you had a chance to review the soil and rock nail quantities? I am getting nearly 7000 total drilled feet. The pricing table only shows the following: 2.4.a. - Soil Nail Placement - 320 - Lineal Foot - 2.4.b. - Rock Nail Placement - 3660 - Lineal Foot Maybe the Soil Nail Placement line item is missing another zero? I’m assuming Lineal Foot means drilled feet of anchors in the ground.
Answer: After reviewing our quantity take-off calculations it appears the Soil Nail Placement line item is missing another zero. Use a quantity of 3,200 LF for the Soil Nail Placement line item.
Please refer to the nail schedules on plan sheets C5.2 and C5.3 for nail layout and length information.
Question (8) - The scope of the rock wall demolition includes salvage/turnover of salvaged rock to the Owner. Are there designated stock pile areas for the salvaged rock?
Answer: No, stockpiling areas for salvaged rock will be within the project limits of work since the intent is for it to be reused within the construction.
Question (9) - The existing structures to be demolished contain wood that is to be salvaged. Are areas designated for different salvaged materials to be stockpiled prior to turn over to the Owner?
Answer: Yes, CO/Park will evaluate salvage lumber (wood or plastic decking material) and direct the contractor to a selected storage site (Park maintenance yard).
Question (10) - Will the existing facilities be vacated prior to the start up of this contract?
Answer: Yes.
Question (11) - Will existing facilities be available for Contractor use during construction?
Answer: Yes, if desired per D1.0 Note 3.
Question (12) - Can demolition of the existing facilities occur at the end of the contract?
Answer: Yes, if desired.
Question (13) - Is there a written specification available for the fabric on the Courtyard Shade Structure and the Safety Ranger Station Structure? The only reference found is on A9.7 "PVC- Coated Polyester Fabric Light Gray".
Answer: Manufacturer Basis of Design: Sunbrella Shade Collection or approved equal. 100% Acrylic woven shade fabric. Recommended for outdoor use. Greenguard Certified. Skin Cancer Foundation Recommended. 10 Year limited warrranty for shade fabrics. Color: Gray as selected from Manufacturer's full range.
Question (14) - Section L reference a schedule in MS Project format, is P6 format acceptable?
Answer: Microsoft Project or Primavera are acceptable per Spec 01 32 16.
