Task Order Specifications. ALL ITEMS – Thinning, Slashing, Excavator Piling and Mastication

Thinning shall be completed in accordance with the specifications from the R1R4 Mechanical Fuels

Treatment IDIQ and the Task Order specifications for work located in the Item specific Summary

Silvicultural Prescriptions. Acceptable equipment for excavator piling is an excavator equipped with a bucket and a thumb approved by the Contracting Officer. Other equipment may be approved in writing by the Forest Service. This work may occur on slopes up to 35% and on rocky terrain. All unit boundaries are marked in pink florescent flagging.

All Other Considerations –

(1) Minimize damage to the residual leave tree boles.

(2) Any tree designated for retention that poses a safety hazard may be felled by the contractor without prior approval of the Forest Service. All such hazard trees felled to provide for safe work conditions will remain adjacent to the stump.

(3) Leave all snags standing unless they create a hazard. Snags shall be defined as all standing dead trees of any species greater than 10” DBH and 20’ tall or taller.

(4) Excavator piling operations shall be conducted when soil moisture is 18% or less or on frozen ground.

(5) For Item 1, no work shall be conducted on this Item from April 1st through June 15th.

(6) For Items 4 and 5, thinning work should coincide with excavator piling work as much as practical to ensure that slash created through this contract does not pose an unacceptable wildfire risk for an extended period of time. All units with thinning completed during any timeframe in

2022 shall be excavator piled by June 16th of 2023, prior to the 2023 fire season. Any thinning units completed in 2023 shall have excavator piling completed by the final contract completion date of October 13th, 2023.

(7) Prior to project implementation any equipment used shall be weed washed and inspected.

(8) No timber products may be hauled from contract area under this Task Order.

(9) Protect all survey monuments, signs, and powerline improvements.

(10) Road damage resulting from the Contractors operations shall be repaired by the contractor at no expense to the government.

(11) Roadways and ditches must remain clear of slashing debris at all times so as not to impede traffic or water drainage.

(12) Harvest operations may be ongoing in the vicinity of Item 2 (Hagadore Frass Slashing and

Excavator Piling) at the time of solicitation of this Task Order. Please be aware of all traffic, do not interfere with harvest operations, and be courteous to other contractors.
