About this file
This document is a MasterSpec Outline for Precast Structural Concrete (Section 034100), Amendment 0002, referenced under contract number 1240LU26Q0027. It establishes technical specifications and quality standards for precast structural concrete units used in construction projects.
The specification requires fabrication from a PCI-certified plant adhering to PCI MNL 116 quality-control standards, with sample panels and mix certification required. Design standards must comply with AASHTO M 170, and precast units must be designed to withstand a concrete topping load of 12 inches in Silt Category III soil and HL-93 live loads. Materials include plain steel welded wire reinforcement, prestressing tendons, and concrete composed of ASTM C150 Type V Portland cement, gap-graded coarse aggregates, and air-entraining admixture. Portland cement may be reduced by 40 percent through replacement with fly ash, pozzolan, ground granulated blast-furnace slag, and silica fume. Concrete compressive strength at 28 days must achieve 5000 psi for normal-weight concrete. Joints require bell spigot configuration with rubber gaskets and non-metallic non-shrink grout, with polymer-modified grout specified for thin-brick-unit joints. Formed surfaces require standard finishes while unformed surfaces must use screed finishes to maintain hydraulic efficiency. The contractor must provide submittals certifying the fabricator's quality-control and testing methods to ensure products meet minimum standards.
