REQUEST:
1. Detail 11/A562 indicates a 3-3/4" wood filler at the end of the diffuser. RCP Sheet A/421 Legend indicates hatched area as "blanked of linear ceiling diffuser". Is the intent for the hatched areas between diffusers, lights and walls shown on typical ceiling drawings to be wood filler by ceiling installer or blanked off diffuser by mechanical contractor?
2. Wood ceiling spec 095426 does not indicate a requirement for owner stock. Will there be a requirement to provide an owner stock?
3. Spec section 054000 2.3, A, 1 indicates Minimum 16ga or as required by design. In the event 18 ga or lighter meets design loads are we to maintain the min. required 16ga?
4. Spec section 054000 3.4 E requires bridging per design but not less than 48" oc. In the event engineered shop drawings do not require 48" oc. bridging, can we delete the 48" requirement and install per engineered design?
5. During initial review of the architectural drawings, it did not appear the was any interior wall type legend.
The drawing index does not indicate a wall type sheet.
6. Sheet A405 indicates column at grid F-12 to be wrapped square column enclosure. Detail 20/A512 does not list column at grid F-12 as a radius column cover, However RCP sheet A425 indicates column at F-12 to have radius column cover and detail 3/A587 indicates column F-12 to be radius column cover.
7. Does column at F-12 get a radius column cover and if so what diameter cover is to be used?
8. Detail 20/A512 indicates there is a 20" dia. radius column cover at grid 1A-A on the second floor. There is no column at grid 1A-A. Should 20/A512 20" column cover be removed from schedule?
9. At the metal stud framed "cripple" w/ batt insulation, there appears there is no plywood/dens-deck substrate between the cripple wall and the roofing. will plywood or densdeck be required at this location?
10. There appears to be plywood at the backside of the insulated panel, between the cripple wall and the insulated panel. Will this plywood be part of the premanufacted insulated panel or will this be field installed?
11. Are the aluminum metal closures shown in details 6, 7, 10 / A562 intended to be part of the electrical fixtures/diffusers? If so, is the intent that the ceiling system is supported from the Aluminum Metal Closure?... If

Additional Questions – Nome Hospital
1. Drawing A-113, between gridlines 14 -17 shows 6ea. Type A windows on the 1st floor. Drawing 1/A-204 shows 5ea windows on the first floor. Should there be a 6th window shown on the elevation view @ gridline 14.3? Please clarify.
2. Drawings C-3.2 and C-3.3 note that the off-site water and sewer piping construction is not included in this project (NIC). Various notes on these drawings also indicate to install bentonite water stop per details 1, 2 & 3/C4.3. Is it the intent of the contract that the bentonite water stop work is to be done on all NIC off-site water and sewer piping, but the supply and installation of the actual piping itself is not part of this contract? And, if so, who/how will the piping installation be coordinated with this project work? Please clarify.
3. If the above bentonite water stop work is to be done, detail 1/C4.3 notes that the depth of excavation as directed by the engineer. It is also unclear as to the depth required in detail 3/C4.3 (single pipe, frozen ground detail) For bidding purposes, what should be the assumed depth of this excavation?
4. Addendum #2 clarified the work hours between 7:00AM and 10:00 PM, however the days of work remain unchanged as Monday through Friday. Will weekend work be approved by the Contracting Officer?
Knowing this information in preparing the proposal would be helpful.

The following question concerns Drawings, Sheet # A-405, A-446, A-452, & A460 and Specifications, Section # 08 56 53 –Security Windows
The relight between Rooms 1601 and 1700 on A-405 is called out as R14, which is a 1’6”x 8’6” unit per the relight schedule on A620.
This does not match the 4’x5’ sliding relight on elevations 5/A-446 and 2/A452.
Which should we be utilizing?
Also, The elevations reference a sliding window with a smoke seal. Is this specified assembly in section 08 56 53?
If not where can we find the appropriate smoke seal specification and /or the location of the security windows?

Questions Nome Hospital
1. Drawings C-3.3 and 2/C-4.6 indicate that the building water supply and return piping is sized 8". Drawing P400A indicates the water service return is sized 4". Which is correct? There are no 8" x 4" reducing fittings shown on any drawings indicating a change in pipe sizes.
2. Referencing the building water supply/return piping, should/is there a connection detail similar to those shown for the building sewer and storm systems (details 1 & 2/C-4.5) allowing flex at the connection? Or is this simply a hard piped fused joint connection?
3. Reference TS section 019114 - Functional Testing Requirements. What schedule duration should be assumed for the performance of the Functional Testing for the various systems (mechanical, electrical, fire protection, life safety systems, building envelope, etc..) detailed in the referenced TS? Various subcontractors and/or vendors are required participants in the testing (at the direction of the CxA), a duration of time needed for their presence would be helpful in preparing the proposal. The CxA is to develop a step-by-step procedure for the testing, so the CxA should have an estimate of what this testing duration will be.

ANSWER:
1. The supply and return lines are intended to be 8-inch, drawing P400A should be revised to agree with C-3.3 and 2/C-4.6. Refer to Amendment #6.
2. Details 1 and 2 on C-4.5 relate to gravity sewer and storm drain – and are an expansion joint with protective “bellow” sleeve. These are not appropriate for pressure water piping. The mechanical engineer, Notkin, should consider installing a pressure-type expansion/flex (FL x FL connection) joint at the building entry for the 8-inch water supply & return. A Red Valve series D-30, 8” FL x FL (ANSI CL 150 flanges) would be an option. The 8” HDPE SDR 11 pipe could have butt-fused flange adapters with backer rings installed to match up with the expansion/flex joints. Depending on where the expansion joint is located, a rubber boot “bellows” may, or may not, be needed for the building penetration. Refer to Amendment #6.

3. The domestic water piping and the gravity sewer piping need to be tested in conformance with ADEC requirements and to the satisfaction of NJUS. Typically, sewer piping is air tested between MH’s and between last MH and the building service connection. The water piping is typically air tested as a quick check during construction; then, it is fully disinfected, flushed, and hydrostatically tested (1.5 x operating pressure or 150 psi max.) as part of the final acceptance. ADEC and NJUS needs these testing results, as well as the final bacterial test, prior to serving the facility with potable water.

PROJECT: New Nome Hospital
TO: Attn: Paul Geisert Division of Engineering Services
REQUEST:
Your response to bid inquiry 00085 is greatly appreciated, but I don't believe it completely addresses this issue.
You response addresses product specific issues, this is not a product specification, but rather a communication protocol for the HVAC control system and therefore I don't believe this would be a reference to a brand name as FAR 52.236-5 would be addressing. As in my originally inquiry, what I am seeking is permission to use a similar, but different, HVAC control system open communications protocol. Specification section 230900, Instrumentation and Control for HVAC, specifies the direct digital HVAC control system to be ASHRAE 135 compliant (BacNet). BacNet is an open communications protocol for HVAC systems similar to the LON protocol. What I am seeking is permission to use another open communications protocol for HVAC systems as long as the system can still communicate to the other equipment as specified as well as meeting the other functional requirements for this project. The protocol I am seeking to utilize is LON.

PROJECT: New Nome Hospital
TO: Attn: Paul Geisert Division of Engineering Services
REQUEST:
Please clarify the intent of the notes on page E308. Various notes on drawing E308 indicate multiple motors, for example: AHU1 (SF) (10) 10 hp. Does this indicate 1 VFD with capacity to run 10 x 10 hp motors ,ie a 100 hp VFD, or 10 VFD’s. Another example from the same page is MVP-1 with (2) 10hp. Is the intent to have one 20hp starter to power both motors or two 10hp combo starters?
