About this file

This document is an Amendment 01 Questions document for Solicitation 0000313 related to Groundwater Collection and Geochemical Testing. The file contains a series of technical questions and corresponding responses from the contractor (presumably MSTS) regarding detailed specifications for groundwater sampling. Key technical questions addressed include: sampling methodology using a SinglePhase Sampler with a 3.77" bit size, training logistics (web-based training after award), wellbore pressure expectations, potential for H2S concentrations, sample bottle shipping requirements, and sample volume needs. Responses indicate uncertainty about hydrostratigraphy, but confirm expectations for an unconfined or semi-confined aquifer with no anticipated excess fluid pressure or high H2S levels. The contractor requires approximately 200 ml of fluid sample to complete laboratory testing, with preference for DOT-shippable sample bottles to be included in the quote.

SOLICITATION 0000313, Groundwater Collection and Geochemical Testing

Amendment 01 Questions

1. Due to the Bit Size of 3.77” our only option for sampling would be to use our Single- Phase Sampler where we would run in hole and tie in to correct depth and open the tool for a 600 ml fluid sample. I have attached the spec sheet for that tool. We would have to assume that the fluid in the wellbore at this depth would be from the aquifer and with the large open hole interval I am not familiar enough with the geology to know if this was the only aquifer in the area that would fill the hole. So, my first question is would this meet the requirements for sampling the water we would have to assume was from that interval in the borehole.

There is a lot of uncertainty regarding the hydrostratigraphy of the aquifer, including any confining/semi-confining units and secondary porosity. As long as the sample is acquired at the required depth, then we will have to assume the requirements are met.

2. When would training take place, would it be prior to SLB mobilizing for the job or could we do the training the day before?

Training will be provided after award and can be completed via web-based training.

3. How much pressure is expected on the wellbore at surface? We would almost for certain utilize a packoff but what other Pressure control may be needed at surface or would the well be stable

We assume you mean fluid pressure? As mentioned above there is a lot of uncertainty in the hydrostratigrapy, but MSTS would treat the aquifer as unconfined or potentially semi-confined, and we would not expect excess fluid pressure.

4. What is the potential for H2S, should we expect it? Lab will test but I was curious if it has been seen in the area prior

There is no indication of elevated H2S levels in nearby wells, and we would not expect elevated values as seen in the oil fields. We do not anticipate high H2S concentration. MSTS would like to test for it in case the concentrations are higher than expected, to determine the impact it could have on safety and experiment design.

5. Do I need to quote sending the sealed sample bottles to the lab or would MSTS handle that? We will sample in DOT shippable bottles.

Yes, we would prefer that this is included, if possible.

6. How much fluid sample would MSTS like to take? My plan for the initial quote would be to sample two SRS bottles worth on 1 run for a total of 1,200 ml. According to the lab we would need 200 ml to run the set of tests outlines. I was not sure if while we were there you anticipated wanting more fluid just in case.

This had come up in our previous discussions and decided that MSTS only needs the amount required by the lab to complete the tests.
