About this opportunity
The Alabama Space Science Exhibit Commission, operating as the U.S. Space & Rocket Center, is seeking professional public relations services through a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) for a strategic communications partner. The primary objective is to enhance the Center's earned media presence and manage its reputation, with a heavy emphasis on media relations, strategic media planning, and crisis communications. Specific deliverables include media outreach, media kit development, thought leadership support, media monitoring and reporting, crisis preparedness planning, and limited social media assistance. Qualified vendors must be licensed in Alabama and submit a comprehensive qualification packet containing a letter of interest, Alabama Vendor Disclosure statement, Business License, DHS E-Verify Document, W9 form, and a detailed proposal. The proposal must include an executive summary, firm overview, approach to earned media, crisis communications plan, proposed budget, and at least three professional references. Key deadlines include a question submission deadline of August 8, 2025, at 5:00 PM SCT, with final qualifications due by August 15, 2025, at 5:00 PM CST. The evaluation will be conducted according to Title 41-16-72.10(3) of the Alabama State Code, with selection based on demonstrated experience, technical expertise, and ability to meet the Center's communication objectives.
While no specific set-aside designations or restrictions on respondent types are explicitly mentioned, the RFQ indicates that the procurement is open to professional public relations firms capable of meeting the specified qualifications. The solicitation suggests the contract will result in a Master Service Agreement and Purchase Order, with the expectation of a collaborative relationship between the selected firm and the U.S. Space & Rocket Center's internal marketing and communications team. Although no specific budget range is provided, the RFQ requires respondents to submit a detailed proposed budget breakdown including fees, anticipated expenses, and potential retainer structures. The procurement timeline indicates initial candidate selection will occur on August 18, 2025, with a final candidate to be selected and announced on September 5, 2025. Interested firms must submit their qualifications to Sam Mitchell, Director of Procurement, either via email or through a reliable, trackable delivery method to the U.S. Space & Rocket Center located in Huntsville, Alabama. The opportunity appears to be structured as an ongoing professional services engagement rather than a one-time project, suggesting potential for continued collaboration based on performance and mutual satisfaction.
