About this opportunity
Salt Lake County is pursuing a sole source procurement for the Clark Planetarium's Galaxy Point of Sale (POS) system reimplementation through the Division of Contracts and Procurement. The project, to be executed with Gateway Ticketing Systems (GTS), involves a comprehensive review, recommendation, rebuild, expansion, and reimplementation of the existing POS environment. The procurement is being conducted as a Request for Information (RFI) with a specific timeline for potential objections, requiring interested parties to submit any challenges by October 15, 2025, at 1:00 PM Mountain Time. The project's key objectives include optimizing the current POS system, which has been in use since 2003, and ensuring continued operational efficiency for the Clark Planetarium. The procurement is being pursued under Salt Lake County Ordinance 3.20.030, which allows sole source procurement when goods or services are only available from a single vendor or when standardization and compatibility are primary considerations. Evaluation criteria appear to be centered on the vendor's unique software ownership and the cost-effectiveness of maintaining the current system.
The procurement is specifically restricted to Gateway Ticketing Systems as the sole source provider, with no alternative vendors identified for this specialized POS software. An exhaustive review of comparable systems determined that switching costs would exceed $250,000, making the current optimization project with GTS the most economically viable solution. The estimated project cost is $89,300.00, with the procurement being processed as a protected record under the Utah Governmental Records and Access Management Act (GRAMA). No specific set-aside designations or enterprise restrictions were mentioned in the documentation. The existing infrastructure involves the Galaxy POS system that has been in continuous use by the Clark Planetarium since 2003, with the current project focused on reimplementation and expansion of the existing technological environment. The sole source justification is predicated on GTS being the exclusive owner and service provider of the POS software, with no comparable alternatives that can provide the same level of system continuity and compatibility.
