About this opportunity
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) is conducting market research through this Pre-Solicitation Notice to identify qualified sources capable of providing proprietary software support, preventative maintenance, and technical repairs for a Hyperfine Swoop Portable MRI system. The procurement seeks providers who can deliver ongoing software patches, firmware updates, AI-driven reconstruction algorithm upgrades, biannual preventative maintenance, emergency repair services, and OEM-certified replacement parts while maintaining the system's FDA-cleared performance specifications and operational integrity. Key qualifications include legal authority to access proprietary Hyperfine software, technical capability to perform specialized diagnostics, and ability to maintain warranties without compromise. The market research is designed to evaluate whether any source other than the Original Equipment Manufacturer possesses the necessary credentials and technical expertise to provide these services independently. The response deadline for interested parties is February 13, 2026, one week from the notice posting date of February 6, 2026. This notice explicitly states it is for market research purposes only and does not constitute a Request for Quotation or commitment to award a contract.
This procurement carries no set-aside designation and appears to be directed toward identifying alternatives to the current incumbent, Hyperfine Operations, Inc., which is the OEM and likely the existing service provider. The contract structure outlined in the Statement of Work indicates a base period from March 1, 2026 through February 28, 2027, with four optional one-year renewal periods extending through February 28, 2031, representing a potential five-year engagement. The contract requires two scheduled preventative maintenance visits annually, with corrective maintenance support available within 4 business hours via phone or remote assistance and on-site repairs within 48-72 hours of service request. Work will be performed at NIST's Boulder, Colorado facility (Building 81, 325 Broadway) during regular business hours, with contractor personnel required to obtain security badges and comply with NIST safety and IT security requirements. While specific award values are not disclosed in this sources sought notice, the comprehensive nature and multi-year structure suggest a substantial support contract for specialized medical imaging equipment maintenance and software management.
