About this opportunity
The Federal Bureau of Prisons has published a Special Notice regarding Mobile Xray services for the Federal Medical Center in Fort Worth, Texas. This notice is issued pursuant to FAR Subpart DEVIATION 6.103-1(b), which permits procurement through other than full and open competition under specific circumstances. The BOP is seeking to award an interim contract for mobile imaging services to support the inmate population at the facility. The notice was posted on February 2, 2026, with a response deadline of February 6, 2026. This is a Total Small Business set-aside opportunity classified under NAICS 621512 (Diagnostic Imaging Centers) and PSC Q702 (Technical Medical Support).
The BOP intends to award an interim sole-source contract to the incumbent contractor, Med-share, Inc., to maintain continuity of Mobile Xray services while a new competitive solicitation is being developed. The justification for this non-competitive award is based on urgent medical necessity and the need to prevent service interruption to the inmate population; Med-share has successfully provided these services for over five years at rates deemed fair and reasonable. The interim contract covers the period from October 1, 2025, through January 30, 2026, with an estimated total cost of $55,000.00 based on monthly firm-fixed-unit-price purchase orders consistent with the previous contract's Option Year Four rates. To participate, contractors must be small businesses and capable of providing uninterrupted mobile radiographic services. Following this interim period, the BOP will conduct a full and open competitive solicitation, which will be advertised through the Government-wide point of entry, allowing other qualified contractors the opportunity to compete for the permanent contract.
