About this opportunity

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), a component of the Department of Commerce, issued a Special Notice on February 12, 2026, announcing its intent to sole source the procurement of a KLA G200 Nano-Indenter Controller from KLA Corporation. The notice falls under NAICS code 334513 (Instruments and Related Products Manufacturing for Measuring, Displaying, and Controlling Industrial Process Variables) and is being conducted under FAR Subpart 12.102 authority as a firm-fixed price purchase order. NIST's Materials and Structural Systems Division requires replacement of a faulty instrument controller that has rendered the nano-indenter system inoperable at its Gaithersburg, Maryland facility. The sole source determination is justified based on the NanoSwift Instrument Controller being proprietary equipment specifically designed for the existing G200 nano-indenter system, with installation and calibration requiring certified KLA service engineers and proprietary tools.

Interested contractors who believe they can satisfy the stated requirements have until February 26, 2026 at 10:00 AM Eastern Time to submit responses via email to jennifer.lohmeier@nist.gov. Submissions must include the contractor's name and address, point of contact information, SAM Universal Entity Identification (UEI), validated business classification as registered in SAM, and a capability statement. The successful contractor must deliver the new NanoSwift controller within 60 days of award on a FOB Destination basis to NIST's facility at 100 Bureau Drive, Building 226, Room B237, Gaithersburg, Maryland 20899, and complete installation and calibration within 10 business days of delivery by a certified KLA Service Engineer. Post-installation function testing and a written report documenting results must be submitted to the Contracting Officer Representative, followed by NIST's 10-day operational test to verify compliance. Any deficient or damaged products must be replaced at the contractor's expense, with liability for latent defects prorated over the useful life of the product.
