About this opportunity

The Department of Energy's Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (Fermilab) is seeking a subcontractor to replace an end-of-life water-cooled HVAC system located in Proton West 7 (PW7) at their Batavia, Illinois facility. The solicitation requires a qualified contractor to provide full-scope services including purchasing a new 20-ton water-cooled system, removing the existing York E#1922 unit, performing electrical and water line disconnections, installing new components, and completing all necessary startup and testing procedures. The contract opportunity (ID: 7d19fab4951641d18ce501ba8a5c7446) was posted on February 18, 2025, with proposals due by April 4, 2025. Contractors must have expertise in HVAC system replacement, electrical work, and mechanical installations, with specific qualifications in plumbing, heating, and air-conditioning contracting. The evaluation will likely focus on technical capabilities, compliance with detailed scope of work requirements, and ability to complete all specified installation and testing tasks.

The solicitation does not indicate any specific set-aside designations, meaning the opportunity is open to all qualified contractors. The project is classified under NAICS Category 238220 for Plumbing, Heating, and Air-Conditioning Contractors and PSC Category 4120 for Air Conditioning Equipment. While no specific budget range is mentioned, the comprehensive scope suggests a moderate-sized project involving significant equipment replacement and installation. The entire project will be performed at the Fermilab facility in Batavia, Illinois, with an in-house overhead crane technician assisting in equipment positioning. The contractor will be responsible for providing all necessary materials, including a new 20-ton water-cooled system, electrical components, refrigeration valves, copper piping, insulation, and completing all required documentation such as manufacturer start-up paperwork and equipment manuals.
