About this opportunity
Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory, managed by Fermi Forward Discovery Group, LLC under a Department of Energy prime contract, seeks fabrication and delivery of PIP-II ORBUMP Magnet Coil Assemblies, with proposals due June 18, 2026 at 2:00 P.M. CST and questions due June 9, 2026 at 4:00 P.M. CST. This is an unrestricted acquisition carrying no set-aside.
Place of performance is Batavia, Illinois. The procurement requires one prototype and seven production ORBUMP Coil Assemblies manufactured from OFHC C10200 copper alloy with minimum 100% electrical conductivity per IACS standards, brazed using AWS C3.6M/C3.6:2016-AMD2 vacuum brazing standards with Aufhauser Silver Alloy containing minimum 50% silver. Brazed joints must pass non-invasive void testing not exceeding 15% of joint area, resistance measurement within 10% of average across all coils, hydrostatic pressure testing at 24.1 Bar with no external leakage, and hydraulic flow testing at specified pressure differentials. Delivery spans 34 weeks from award with hold points at weeks 10, 16, and 30. All deliverables carry 12-month warranty against manufacturing defects.
Offerors must demonstrate minimum five years of experience in fabrication, machining, brazing, assembly, inspection, and testing of precision copper assemblies, electromagnets, accelerator components, water-cooled conductors, or similar equipment; if in business less than five years, key personnel (Plant Manager, Quality Control Manager, Lead Engineer) must hold ten years of relevant experience. Technical proposals must document experience, quality assurance and testing capabilities, and three completed projects of similar type, size, scope, and complexity within the past five years.
Pricing is firm-fixed-price in USD valid for 90 days with no economic price escalation, currency conversion allowances, or fuel surcharges permitted. Delivery is DAP Fermilab with freight included. NAICS code is 332710, Machine Shops, with 500-employee small business size standard. A small business subcontracting plan is required if the awardee exceeds 500 employees and subcontract value exceeds $750,000. Award will be best-value without discussions. Proposals must be submitted in two separate documents (Part I—Technical Proposal and Part II—Business/Price Proposal) with all required certifications including SARC and Form PUR-466.
Notice text
Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (Fermilab or FNAL), managed and operated by Fermi Forward Discovery Group, LLC (FFDG) under a prime contract with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), is seeking to subcontract for work aligned with its mission objectives.
The Proton Improvement Plan II (PIP-II) project is an essential upgrade to Fermilab’s accelerator complex to enable the world’s most intense high-energy beam of neutrinos for the international Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment at LBNF and a broad physics program, powering discoveries for many decades to come. In support of this project, FNAL requires the fabrication and delivery of PIP-II-ORBUMP Magnet Coil Assembly, as identified herein.
