About this opportunity
The U.S. Forest Service is issuing a Request for Information (RFI) for a 10-Year Integrated Resource Stewardship Contract-Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity (IRSC/IDIQ) covering forest management services at the Bitterroot National Forest in Montana. The primary objectives are to reduce catastrophic wildfire risk through accelerated forest restoration treatments and to support regional wood utilization capacity by providing a consistent supply of timber products. Services include timber removal, road maintenance and reconstruction, timber sale preparation activities (harvest unit layout, GPS traversing, boundary marking, and cruising), and biomass removal operations. The Forest Service will evaluate proposals based on contractor operational capabilities, logging methodology, pricing competitiveness, and performance quality, with consideration for both price and operational excellence. The RFI was posted June 11, 2025, with a response deadline of July 24, 2025, and an industry engagement meeting was held July 10, 2025, to discuss project details and solicit feedback.
This procurement includes no set-aside designations and does not identify any current incumbents. The contract encompasses approximately 13,000 acres of treatment across the Bitterroot Front Planning Area over ten years, with a minimum of 90,000 CCF (approximately 45 million board feet) of commercial timber anticipated over the contract life, though volumes may fluctuate annually. Four project areas are targeted for immediate implementation upon contract award, with additional project areas offered on an annual basis subject to available funding. The Forest Service estimates awarding 6-10 contracts with multiple award preference, structured with 3-5 year performance periods and utilizing a task order process. Draft contract documents were released October 16, 2025, with mapbooks for mandatory and optional contract areas added on October 29, 2025, and a formal RFP is expected in the first quarter of FY2026, with contract award anticipated in the second quarter.
