2.4 Order of Precedence. In the event of a conflict between the text of this document and the publications cited herein, the text of this document takes precedence. Nothing in this document, however, supersedes applicable laws and regulations unless a specific exemption has been obtained.
3.0 PHYSICAL CONFIGURATION REQUIREMENTS
3.1 General. In order to simplify training and familiarization requirements for the Soldier, system exterior design features such as symbology, buttonology, and switchology shall be minimized to the extend practical. While there is room for design ingenuity and creativity, the form, fit and function requirements as shown below shall be followed by all manufacturers to maintain continuity with legacy STORM devices.
3.2 Weight and Overall Envelope Dimensions
The STORM II shall weight ˂ 14 oz with battery(s) (T), < 10 oz with battery (s) (O) exclusive of the remote control. The remote control shall weight ≤ 2.5 oz (T), < 2.0 oz (O).
The overall envelope dimensions for the STORM-II shall be as follows (maximum 32.8 cubic inches): Width ≤ 3.6 inches, Length < 5.7 inches, Depth ≤ 1.6 inches.
3.3 Electrical Connector Descriptions and Locations.
3.3.1 External Power and USB. A 6-pin Glenair Connector (part number 807-155 ZC6-6CN) shall be located on the rear of STORM-II to accommodate External Power and USB signals.
3.3.2 Remote Control, Remote Control Power, and RS232. A 7-pin Fischer connector (part number DBEE 102 A056-149) shall be located on the rear of STORM-II to accommodate signals for Remote Control, Remote Control Power, and RS232 serial data link.
3.4 Mounting Mechanism. The mounting mechanism shall use no more than two mounting/tightening devices.
3.5 Bore Sight Alignment Mechanism. Bore sight alignment mechanism shall use one adjuster for horizontal and one for vertical alignment. These shall align all lasers simultaneously.
3.6 Control Buttons, Switch Locations and Functions.
Range (Laser Range Finder (LRF) measurement), Menu, Laser activation buttons, and Function Select Switches, shall be consistent to the maximum extent possible with legacy STORM SLX placement and operation, the salient features outlined in 3.6.1 a-r and Table 1. The exception to this might be the NIR Illuminator High Operation button and LRF/SWIR Marking and Illumination Mode Selector switch, being new features for STORM II.
3.6.1 Range, Menu, Laser Activation Buttons and Function Select Switch Operations
a. Range, Menu, and Laser buttons shall be located on the left side of STORM-II chassis, when looking at the rear of the unit, and marked with an "L", "M", and "R" respectively.
b. “L” button is for Laser fire, “R” button is for Range measurement.
c. Tapping the “L” button once will initiate a momentary lasing event, tapping the “R” button once will initiate a single range (or SWIR Illuminator or Marker) event.
d. Tapping the “L” button twice in rapid succession will initiate a continuous lasing event, tapping the “R” button twice in rapid succession will initiate continuous ranging (or SWIR Illuminator or Marker) events.
e. The "L" and "R" buttons will also be used for menu tree navigation while the "M" button will be used for menu entry/exit and menu selection, as implemented in legacy STORM devices.
f. Holding the "M" button for a period of approximately 3-5 seconds will bring up the menu screen.
g. Scrolling through the menu tree shall be accomplished using navigation "L" and "R" buttons for default selections.
h. A removable Remote Control shall utilize the RS-232 Serial Data cable for communication to STORM II.
i. The removable Remote Control shall provide a dual button feature to allow for LRF Range firing and Laser Activation (T), or a three button feature to allow for LRF Range firing, Laser Activation, and full Menu selection capability (O).
j. A three button feature allowing for LRF Range firing, Laser Activation, and full Menu selection capability (O) will utilize pin # 1 “NC” on the 7-pin Fischer connector for the Menu function.
k. The removable Remote Control shall be common in design and electrical functionality with PM-SSL Products Remote Control devices and Legacy STORM Remote Control devices.
l. The removable Remote Control shall allow the operator to independently operate the aforementioned operations from the rear or forward grip area.
m. Menu tree structure and design is determined by each vendor, and shall be provided to the Government in the vendors’ Systems Engineering Plan.
n. For autonomous operation, a rotary switch shall be mounted on the top rear to control the Visible Aiming Laser Low and High, NIR Aiming Laser Low and High, NIR Illumination Laser Low and High, and Dual Illumination Low and High.
o. For autonomous operation, a rotary switch shall be mounted on the top rear to control LRF, SWIR Marking Mode, and SWIR Illumination Mode.
p. A visible mechanical safety lockout mechanism shall be incorporated to prevent inadvertent High power mode(s) of operation.
q. Ballistic Calculator mode will allow input of parameters via RS-232, USB, or UWB.
r. The Ballistic Calculator will provide firing offset parameters to the display or output these parameters over RS-232, USB, or UWB.

APPENDIX Connectors, Pin-Outs, and Drawings
Figures A, B, C, D, E provide connector locations and pin-outs required for STORM II. Protector RWS interface cables are in Figures D and E. Ground lug location is in Figure F.
FIGURE A 7-Pin Fischer Connector
1. This diagram records the correct pin-out for the STORM II ICD.
2. Previous STORM ICD’s were incorrect due to the fact that the Fischer data sheet for the DBEE 102 A056-149 (chassis receptacle – female) and S 102 A056-142 +N/3.5 (cable plug – male) shows the pin numbering looking from the rear, whereas the ICD’s provided the pin-out looking from the front with incorrect numbering.
3. Pin positioning and numbering are taken directly from “Fischer Connectors General Catalogue Edition 5” page 80, for Series 102 Type A Receptacle and Plug. Note the large black arrow shown on the diagrams indicates perspective as per the catalogue.
4. Functional position for each pin remains the same as legacy STORM ICDs/devices, the STORM II ICD only corrects the numbering.
