DA FORM 2408-13-1 and 13-2 PARTS
Trans Code = the source of the part.
A = Supply. Part is obtained from TEC supply generating a cost to the unit.
D = Fabricated. Fabrication and/or assembly of items. Manufacture/fabrication of repair parts. This code will be used when repair parts are manufactured or fabricated from stock. This will include but not be limited to such items as hydraulic tubes, lines and hoses, and noncritical airframe members and brackets.
U = Repairable Exchange. RX is a supply system maintained at AVIM level. It is designed to speed up the available repair parts system with repair recoverable items on hand for issue on a one-for-one basis. RX eliminates the need to request issue or turn-in. DA Form 2765 (Request for Issue or Turn-in) and DA Form 2765-1 (Request for Issue or Turn-in) are prepared and hand-carried, along with the unserviceable items, to the AVIM RX section for exchange for a serviceable item.
V = Controlled Substitution. ORF (Operational Readiness Float) is that quantity of items authorized for issue to MACOMs for use by DS maintenance units in exchanging with supported units if a like item cannot be repaired in a timely manner. The use of V Controlled Substitution ensures that AMSAA’s cost per flying hour calculations are not overstated? See examples below. SOURCE MAINTENANCE AND RECOVERABILITY CODE (SMR)
Source Maintenance and Recoverability Code is a five position code containing Supply/requisitioning information, Maintenance level authorization criteria, and Disposition instructions. The SDC&A Aviation Programs require the SMR Code to be entered into all Parts. SMR Codes must be a valid SMR Code that can be requested from supply.
The first and second positions are the source code which tells you how to get the item. The third position is who can install, replace, or use the item. The fourth position is who can do complete repair on the item. The fifth position indicates special handling requirements or who determines disposition action on an unserviceable item
SOURCE MAINTENANCE AND RECOVERABILITY CODE (SMR)(cont.)
CODE EXPLANATION FIRST TWO POSITIONS
P series source coded items are items which are centrally procured.
PA = Stocked items – use the applicable NSN and part number to PB = request / requisition items with these source codes.
PC** ** Note: Items coded PC are subject to deterioration
PD
PE
PF
PG
Parts numbers with the above codes are acceptable to use without restrictions. PR Item is no longer procured and has been replaced by a preferred item. The degree of interchangeable will be reflected in the description column. The item should be assessed for repair prior to disposition. If terminal or obsolete item is used a statement in remarks is required. Did it come from PLL, bench stock, or shop stock? PZ Item terminal or obsolete with no replacement; discontinue use. (Army only. This code will not affect other Services if they are recorded as a user at DLSC.)
K series source coded items are contained in kits and do not/will not have an NSN assigned.
KD = Not to be requested / requisition individually. Part of a kit and complete KF = kit must be requisitioned and applied.
KB = Parts with these codes are acceptable, but must order complete kit. Note. In those instances where an item is part of a kit and is also an item extraneous to the kit, the P series source code will take precedence.
M series source coded items are to be manufactured or fabricated at some level of maintenance.
MO = Not to be requested / requisition individually, made from bulk material.
MF
MG (Navy)
MH
ML
MD
Note: Parts with these codes cannot be ordered. The part number in the IETM is only a reference to the Maintenance procedures for illustrated field manufactured items list. All bulk materials needed for manufacture of an item are listed by part number or specification number in a tabular list on the illustration.
A series source coded items are authorized for assembly at some level of maintenance. These codes should be assigned when all parts for assembly, the required support equipment and the skills required for the assembly are available at the specified level of maintenance.
AO = Not to be requested / requisition individually. The parts that make up AF = the assembled item must be requisitioned or fabricated and assembled AH = at the level of maintenance indicated by the source code.
AL
AD
Note: Part numbers with these codes cannot be ordered (as an assembly). See below. Items with these codes are not to be requested/requisitioned individually. The parts that make up the
SOURCE MAINTENANCE AND RECOVERABILITY CODE (SMR)(cont.)
assembled item must be requisitioned or fabricated and assembled at the level of maintenance indicated by the source code.
X series source coded items are items for which no demand is anticipated.
XA = Part numbers with these codes cannot be ordered. Item is not procured or stocked because the requirements for the item will result in the replacement of the next higher assembly. Order its next higher assembly.
XB = Item may/may not be available through salvage. Salvage should be considered unless use of salvage item is prohibited by instruction in equipment publication.
If prohibited, requisition through normal supply channels using Commercial and Government Entity (CAGE) code and reference number.
XC Cannot be ordered. = Installation drawing, diagram, instruction sheet, field Service drawing not an aircraft part. Installation drawing, diagram, instruction sheet, field Service drawing, that is identified by manufacturers’ part number. Note: Part numbers with SMR code of XC sometimes will FedLog but it is still a Installation drawing, diagram, instruction sheet, field Service drawing not an aircraft part.
XD = Item is not stocked. Order “XD” – coded items through normal supply channels using cage and part number given, if no NSN is available. Support item with low mortality rate, not stocked. Local purchase or requisition through normal channels using contractor and government entity code (CAGE) and reference number. Not obtainable from salvage/cannibalization. Statement in remarks is required explaining where part came from local purchase or requisition through normal channels. XD part without an NSN must explain in the part data line REMARKS block where the part was researched and found to be legitimate.
