Question Submitted on September 16, 2009

Question: “Addendum #03 drawing sheet A-05 indicates to provide, “door, frame, and hardware shall be tight-fitting with a three hour minimum fire rating” for door id ICB-2 through ICB-7. However, door id INR-1 through INR-3 and SBD-1 through SBD-3 does not indicate any fire rating. Please advise if we are to provide fire rated interior overhead coiling door and blast resistant sliding doors to match the HM man doors.”

USACE Response to Question: As indicated on Sheet A-05 DOOR SCHEDULE no fire rating is required for the interior overhead coiling doors and the blast resistant sliding doors. The Contractor shall provide Blast doors as specified in specification section 08 71 00 BLAST RESISTANT DOORS and Interior overhead Coiling doors as specified in specification section 08 33 23 OVERHEAD COILING

GARAGE DOORS.

Question Submitted on September 17, 2009

Question: “The Specification 263215.00 10 indicates the temp. generator needs to have motor starting requirement of 3MW and minimum generator sub transient reactance of 10%. Although drawing E-01 notates a "2MW Standby Diesel Generator", the Specification (page 15) lists the requirements for motor starting and sub transient reactance. Are we to include a 3MW generator or a 2MW generator?”

USACES Response to Question: 2MW Generator.

Question Submitted on September 18, 2009

Question: “Can you please clarify the motor starting requirements for the generator set for the Chicago Sanitary Ship Canal Fish Barrier 2B project? The Specification

253215.00 10 indicates motor starting requirement of 9000 kVA and minimum generator subtransient reactance of 10%. The drawing E-01 notates a “2mW Standby Diesel Generator”. A 2mW Standby Diesel Generator can not start 9000 kVA of motor starting loads. If possible could you send the load profile so we could assist in sizing the generator set?”

USACES Response to Question: The motor starting of 9000kVA as specified in section 26 32 15.00 10 (Diesel Generator)is the generator capability to take the motor starting load (surge) of 9,000 kVA without dropping the generator output voltage and frequency even though the generator is sized at 2MW.
