MEMORANDUM FOR 127 MSC
FROM: 127 CES/CEN
SUBJECT: Clarification on Requirements for construction on SANGB Building 1414 HVAC and Fire Alarm Project: VGLZ 182 018
The following are questions regarding the construction project on B1414.
Question #1: Regarding drawing S101 of AECOM’s combined full set of design documents, are these details suggestions, or should we use them as a base line and “tweak” as required based on our structural analysis?
127 CES Ans: Drawing S101 is a suggested framing plan to support the installation of the
HVAC Roof Top Units for a given location. This is a baseline study and should be fairly close to the actual installation but the design may require significant structural additions for the final installation, which will be by the installation contractor. This drawing is a concept and the final design will be implemented by the contractor and will be dependent on the roof curbs, weights of the units and other factors. The contractor will be responsible for all roof penetrations, steel designs and Structural PE stamps of the final design for curb location.
Question #2: In the event of an existing roof structure overstress condition caused by the new mechanical unit, should we investigate alternate locations, or reinforce the existing roof structure?
127 CES Ans: Priority would be to keep the HVAC unit in the original location and add reinforcement to the building steel. Regardless of where the HVAC units are located there will be steel work and building steel reinforcement likely required and would be the responsibility of the installation contractor.
Question #3: Are there any floor and/or wall openings required inside of building 1414 that we will need to include as part of our work?
127 CES Ans: Yes, there are likely multiple wall penetrations required for the HVAC system, piping systems and the fire alarm work. Not aware of any floor penetrations but maybe required to penetrate a hard ceiling that is above the suspended ceiling if present.
Question #4: Is there a formal calculation package that we must prepare and submit for review/approval?
127 CES Ans: No. The contractor will be required to submit updated (PE Stamped) steel drawings for HVAC installation, HVAC Test and balance reports, Commissioning reports, and shop drawings. No formal calculations.
Question #5: Please provide As Built drawings?
127 CES Ans: As built drawings would be reference only. There are some original building steel drawings and drawings from other renovations that would be available to the contractor after the award.
