1.2 WORK COVERED BY CONTRACT DOCUMENTS

1.2.1 Project Description

The work includes the design and construction of the Phase II expansion at Fort Jackson National Cemetery to accommodate for additional pre-placed crypts, in-ground cremains, and traditional burial sites. The project shall result in complete and useable facilities including all site work, PPC installation, paving, drainage, landscaping, irrigation and incidental related work. All work will be designed and constructed in conformance with the RFP Documents.

1.2.2 Location

The work is located at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, Columbia, SC. The exact location is illustrated in the RFP drawings.

1.3 OCCUPANCY OF PREMISES

The project site area consists of primarily wooded and unoccupied land.

The existing service road on the north side of the project provides access to the spoils area and FJNC maintenance building. FJNC will continue to use this road throughout the duration of this project and the road should remain accessible during construction.

Before work is started, the Contractor shall arrange with the Contracting Officer's Representative (COR) a sequence of procedure, means of access, and space for storage of materials and equipment. Construction access will be limited to the maintenance driveway off Percival Road and no access will be permitted through the existing cemetery.

The Contractor shall plan all work to minimize impact to the normal operation of the cemetery, its staff, and mission. The contractor shall be responsible for all temporary provisions necessary to meet this requirement, including but not limited to access to existing buildings, roads, and public access to burial sites. All provisions are subject to the approval of the COR and FJNC.

Section 01 11 00 Page 2

1.4 SPECIAL SCHEDULING REQUIREMENTS

The contractor shall cooperate and coordinate with the Cemetery Director, through the COR, in arranging the construction schedule to cause the least possible interference with Cemetery activities. Construction noise during committal services shall not disturb the service. Trucks, workmen, and equipment shall not pass through the cemetery at any time.

Unless otherwise specified in the contract documents, the contractor shall only be allowed to complete work in the project construction area. A construction route will be provided to allow access to the spoils area for the disposal of excess soil from excavation.
