1. The following water stage, wind, wave, and weather data are provided for inclusion in the subject project’s P&S. The water level datums provided here are for information only and are not for use in conjunction with any contract-related hydrographic surveying.
a) Water Stages. Water levels in the project area are mainly affected by mixed semi-diurnal tidal fluctuations in the Atlantic Ocean. The project area is also subject to storm surges from hurricanes and tropical storms from June through November. Surges from extratropical storms may affect the area during any time of the year.
Elevations of tidal datums in the vicinity of the project area were gathered using the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) National Ocean Service (NOS) tide stations shown in Figure 1 and Table 1. Additional tidal data on stations in the vicinity of the subject project area can be found at the following website:
https://tidesandcurrents.noaa.gov/map/index.html?region=PuertoRico.
The elevations in Table 1 are taken from NOAA’s Tide Station 9755371 (San Juan, Puerto Rico).
These datums are based on a 11-year analysis from January 1990 – December 2001 from a gauge located on the southern tip of the U.S. Coast Guard compound in Old San Juan. These data are referenced to Mean Lower-Low Water (MLLW) from the tidal epoch period of 1983 – 2001.

3. National Data Buoy Center (NDBC) Website provides a wide range of real-time and archived meteorological and oceanographic data collected at offshore and nearshore stations worldwide. Data provided on this website include wind speed, wind gusts, atmospheric pressure, air temperature, sea temperature, wave height, and wave period. Gauge readings are updated hourly, and archived data is available for most stations. The website address for data relevant to Puerto Rico projects is https://www.ndbc.noaa.gov.
c) Weather Conditions. The project area is subject to tropical storms and hurricanes from June through November, and to windy and/or rainy weather during any time of the year. The climate of the area is tropical, and temperatures below freezing do not occur. The project area lies within the ‘tradewind’ zone, resulting in moderate winds from easterly directions the vast majority of the time. The wet season in the project area is from May through October. Most rainfall events are normally of short duration and amounts are spatially variable. The highest amounts of rainfall are usually associated with passing hurricanes or other tropical disturbances, which can occur from June through November.
It is the contractor's responsibility to obtain information concerning weather conditions in the project area. The Climate Data Online website (https://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/cdo-web/) published by NOAA’s National Centers for Environmental Information (formerly the National Climatic Data Center) in Asheville, North Carolina contains climatological and meteorological data relevant to this region. Available data include quality-controlled daily, monthly, seasonal, and yearly measurements of temperature, precipitation, wind, and degree days as well as radar data and 30-year climate normals.
NOAA’s Climate Data Online website also includes 1981 – 2010 Monthly Normals at the following website: https://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/cdo-web/datatools/normals. This product provides monthly average values for temperature, precipitation, and other information. NOAA’s Rio Piedras Experimental Station, US gauge (ID RQC00668306) lies roughly 5.8 mi southeast of the project area, at the University of Puerto Rico, (18° 23.4' N, 66° 3.2' W) and is applicable to dredging operations in the vicinity of the subject project. Monthly normal rainfall data for this gauge is provided over the period of record from January 2010 to December 2010.
