05 05 23.16 28 STRUCTURAL STEEL WELDING AND FABRICATION.

3.1.2 Shop Assembly

Assemble each slot filler in the shop to determine the correctness of the fabrication and matching of the component parts unless otherwise specified. Do not exceed those tolerances shown. Closely check each structure assembled to ensure that all necessary clearances have been achieved. Immediately remedy errors or defects disclosed by the Contractor without cost to the Government.

3.1.3 Slot Filler Weight

Assemble each slot filler in the shop to determine a final weight. Submit Draft Tube Slot Filler Weight as a information only submittal and add the measured weight to the final contract drawings. Weight should be accurate to the closest hundred pounds. Do not include weight of any lifting devices as part of the weight submittal.

3.1.4 Identification Plates

As indicated on the contract drawings provide a unique manufacture data labels for each slot filler and each dogging beam. Number the slot fillers 09-14 and label them north/south depending on which slot the slot filler was fabricated to fit. Contact the KO for the unit numbers a minimum of 90 calendar days prior to delivery of each slot filler set. Example identification sequence: 09 North, 09 South, 10 North, 10 South, 11 North, 11 South, etc. Each slot filler manufacture data label shall include the following:

Apply zinc coating in a manner and of a thickness and quality conforming to ASTM A123/A123M . Hot dip galvanize the interior of all Hollow Structural Sections (HSS). This includes HSS used in the legs and for the spreader base. Blast any galvanization on the exterior of the HSS prior to painting. Where interior zinc coating is destroyed by cutting, welding, or other causes, regalvanize the affected areas. Repair coatings less than 2 ounces in accordance with ASTM A780/A780M .

3.4 SHOP CONTROL DIMENSIONS REPORT

After fabrication of each structure, but prior to painting, record and submit control dimensions report of the actual fabricated dimensions for each slot filler.
