2.1.2 Cofferdams (Option A Not Awarded)

Two cofferdams will be provided by the Government for Contractor use if option A is not awarded. Install and maintain cofferdams during stoplog slot replacement. A joint inspection of the cofferdams will be performed and documented by the Contractor and Contracting Officer to ascertain their condition prior to use by the Contractor. At the time of return, a second joint inspection will be performed to determine the returned condition. Reinstall bottom plate on second cofferdam after use and before the second joint inspection. Any damage incurred due to Contractor operations will be required at the Contractor's expense. The cofferdams are not designed to handle ice loading. Provide bubblers or other means to prevent ice buildup on cofferdams.

2.2 CONTRACTOR-FURNISHED DEWATERING ITEMS

2.2.1 Stair Towers

Provide stair towers in accordance with USACE EM 385-1-1.

Stair towers are required for second dewatering only.

2.2.2 Cofferdams (Option A Awarded)

If option A is awarded, then furnish two (2) cofferdams in accordance with USACE technical manuals, safety manuals, and applicable design codes such as AISC and AWS D1.1/D1.1M . Submit the plan and detailed design of the dewatering structures, including possible walkways and handrails, as applicable, for approval a minimum of 45 days prior to start of construction of items. Perform proposed dewatering structure designs by a licensed Professional Structural Engineer with experience in designing dewatering structures and indicate on the submitted design with the Structural Engineer's signed stamp. The cofferdam design must consider the following minimum requirements:

a. Design for water when the top of the structure is in a dewatered state, to provide the maximum hydraulic force on the structure.

Cofferdam height extensions are prohibited unless specifically included in the design.

b. Include a 5 kip per lineal foot ice load acting in a location to provide maximum stress.

c. Include impact loads from falling debris and external forces such as floating debris.

d. Include consideration for uplift forces on the cofferdam.

e. Include considerations for securing the cofferdam to the existing structure, noting the existing concrete at the site was not air-entrained and constructed over 75 years ago, and condition of the concrete is unknown and may include cracking, spalling, and other forms of deterioration.

f. Include considerations for sealing of cofferdam on surfaces that are cracked, spalled, or have other forms of deterioration.

Design dewatering structures to fit the areas for work performed in the

Sprinkling, chemical treatment of an approved type, baghouse, scrubbers, electrostatic precipitators, or other methods are allowed to control particulates in the work area. Sprinkling, to be efficient, to be repeated to keep the disturbed area damp. Provide sufficient, competent equipment available to accomplish these tasks.
