PART 2 PRODUCTS

2.1 GOVERNMENT FURNISHED DEWATERING STRUCTURES

2.1.1 Lock Chamber Stoplogs

Stoplogs for the downstream stoplogs recess will be Government furnished.

The downstream dewatering structure to consist of several stoplog sections, stacked on top of one another. There are 21 stoplogs which, when stacked, form the downstream stoplogs Each stop log weighs approximately 6,500 lbs and dimensions of 48.5'L x 2.75'W x 33"H. A joint inspection of the stoplog sections will be performed and documented by the Contractor and Contracting Officer to ascertain their condition prior to use by the Contractor.

Additionally, a single pickup beam for the stoplogs will be Government furnished. The pickup beam weighs approximately 3,200 lbs.

The stoplogs are stored at Troy Lock. Install and maintain the stoplogs during the first closure until downstream stoplog recesses are complete, stoplogs have been installed and inspected, and lock has been dewatered;

PART 3 EXECUTION

3.1 DEWATERING COORDINATION MEETING

Hold a preliminary meeting with Contracting Officer personnel directly involved with the dewatering effort approximately seven calendar days in advance of beginning dewatering operations at the site, for coordination with the Contractor on schedule, sequence, fleet management, and other issues directly related to the dewatering of the lock chamber.

3.2 STOPLOG RECESS PROTECTION PLATE ASSEMBLIES REMOVE/REINSTALL

There are wooden and steel protection plate assemblies within each of the two stoplog recesses which require removal to accommodate placement of stoplogs in the recesses.

3.3 WALKWAYS ACROSS STOPLOGS

If necessary, provide walkway across the downstream stoplogs to allow personnel access from the land wall to the river wall. Walkways used for personnel access only, and equipment or materials are not allowed across the walkways. Design walkways in accordance with USACE EM 385-1-1. The walkways may not be attached to the stoplogs by permanent methods (i.e., drilling holes thru stoplogs or welding to stoplogs). Design the downstream stoplog walkway for quick removal in case of necessity for emergency rewatering. Inspect walkways throughout use, and maintain or repair walkways in accordance as specified, indicated, and by EM 385-1-1.

3.4 LOCK CHAMBER MONITORING DURING DEWATERING

3.4.1 Contracting Officer Monitoring

During lock drawdown for dewatering, Contracting Officer will monitor the floor of the lock for boils or unusual wall movement. If floor slab heaving or any structural distress due to uplift pressures are detected, the Contracting Officer will immediately work with the Contractor to evacuate the chamber and the Government will rewater the lock chamber.

During the dewatering, the Contracting Officer will be monitoring the observation wells installed on an hourly basis during the lock dewatering drawdown, and then daily thereafter for the entire dewatering period.

Maintain access to the observation wells, as well as a 5-foot x 5-foot area around the well for Contracting Officer use. The Contracting Officer may place physical continuous monitoring devices during the dewatering at the observation wells which will take up the entire 5-foot x 5-foot area.

Plan construction activities to avoid disturbance or damage to equipment.

3.4.2 Contractor Monitoring
