BIDDER’S QUESTIONS AND GOVERNMENT REPLY
1. Question: The chemical shot feeder needs to be floor mounted. The blown down needs to be full size and unobstructed. The detail B on drawing M-504 will not work as detailed. Please advise.
Government Reply: Detail “A” has been revised to include a floor stand, Detail “B” does not apply and has been deleted.
2. Question: Please advise as to where the domestic water service is located in regards to the Open Cell Cooling Towers. No domestic water pipe is indicated on the contract documents in association with the Cooling Towers. Please reference detail C on drawing M-506.
Government Reply: Domestic make-up water is not provided at the cooling towers because it is connected to the condenser water system within the Chiller Plant. Refer to Sheet M-703 in the Contract Documents for point of connection and requirements.
3. Question: Drawing M-807 – Condenser water and tower operation note # 24 (Tower Status and Level Control) makes reference to Cold Water make –up sequence of operation for cooling towers. No domestic cold water piping is shown other than what is indicated on drawing P-113 where it shows a 4” Cold water pipe ending and being capped.
Government Reply: Domestic make-up water is not provided at the cooling towers because it is connected to the condenser water system within the Chiller Plant. Refer to Sheet M-703 in the Contract Documents for point of connection and requirements.
4. Question: Does the Cold water make up pipe need to be insulated, heat traced, jacketed etc.?
Government Reply: Refer to specification 230700 3.2.1.6 Table 1 for make-up water insulation requirements. Refer to specification 230700 for jacketing requirements.
5. Question: Can you please provide more details for the Drip Leg Detail- Steam Turbine Inlet as detailed on A/M-507. We are of the understanding that you need a full size blow off located just before the turbine with a separate valve that is vented to the atmosphere. This is not indicated on the contract documents. The furnishing and installation of the Steam Chillers are far more involved and complex than the Electric Chillers. Can more details be provided?
Government Reply: “Drip Leg Detail – Steam Turbine” has been revised in this Amendment. The referenced blow off is required by the steam turbine manufacturer to remove particulates and debris from the new steam piping just upstream of the steam turbine connection in order to not damage the turbine blades, it is temporary for steam pipe cleaning purposes only. Requirements for the temporary blow off have been clarified on M-507 in this Amendment. Also refer to Contract Drawings M-508 through M-512 for steam turbine chiller installation requirements.
6. Question: What is the required finish for the structural steel to be installed in the Davis Barracks? Per the specifications (2.6.2); we assume this steel is not exposed to weather and will have a shop applied "zinc rich" primer. We also do not find any reference that the aforementioned steel is to receive fireproofing, or an epoxy coating. Please confirm.
Government Reply: Specification Section 05 12 00 requires either galvanized steel or a shop applied zinc rich primer. Field preparation and coating/painting shall be in accordance with Specification Section 09 90 00; see paragraph 1.11.1.2 for scope of interior painting. Fire proofing is not required.
7. Question: Who provides testing for shotcrete?
Government Reply:: See; 33713.1.3 - Contractor is responsible for testing Shotcrete as per specifications.
8. Question: Will there be additional site visits scheduled?
Answer - No additional site visits have been scheduled.
9. Question: Is drawing GE-110 available? See C-401 match line A-A. Can we assume shotcrete work starts at 11+50?
Government Reply: Shotcrete work starts at station 11+50. GE are existing dwgs not required for bidding.
10. Question: Does our scope include "demolition of existing temporary rock fall protection barriers" as referenced in 7300.0018/1.2/C? If so, what are they?
Government Reply: Yes. Barrier consists of jersey barriers with fencing above.
