CDC Site (Borings CDC-B1 through CDC-B4)
Soil Profile
The general stratigraphy encountered in the test borings consisted of indigenous overburden soils underlain by Limestone bedrock. The indigenous soil profile consisted of an upper layer of cohesive silt and clay soils, with varying amounts of intermixed sand and gravel, extending to depths ranging from approximately 4 to 10 feet. The upper cohesive soil layer transitioned to cohesionless sand and gravel soils with varying amounts of intermixed silt. Boulders were encountered in the borings at various locations beginning at depths ranging from approximately 4 to 6 feet.
SPT “N” values obtained in the upper cohesive indigenous soils ranged from 5 to 49 indicating the consistency of these soils varies from “Medium” to “Hard”. SPT “N” values obtained in the cohesionless indigenous soils ranged from 30 to greater than 50 indicating the relative density of these soils varies from “Compact” to “Very Compact”.
Bedrock
Auger refusal (apparent top of bedrock) was encountered in the test borings at depths ranging from 9.0 to 15.0 feet. The following table summarizes the approximate depths/elevations that auger refusal was encountered at each boring location.
Approximate Depth and Elevation of Auger Refusal (Apparent Top of Bedrock) Boring No. Ground Surface
Elevation (feet)
Approximate Depth of Auger Refusal (feet)
Approximate Elevation of Auger Refusal (feet)
CDC-B1 574.52 15.0 559.52
CDC-B2 572.61 18.5 554.11
CDC-B3 576.22 9.0 567.22
CDC-B4 571.29 9.3 561.99
A bedrock core sample was obtained at test boring CDC-B2 after reaching auger refusal. The bedrock core recovered consisted of gray, medium hard, slightly weathered and fractured Limestone rock.
The core recovery value was 100% and the rock quality designation (RQD) value was 72% indicating the recovered rock core rock mass quality was “fair”.
Groundwater Conditions
Free standing water was not encountered in the borings upon completion of drilling and sampling. However, some of the recovered soil samples were described as “wet” at various depths and locations indicating that perched or trapped groundwater conditions were likely present. Zones of wet soil conditions were encountered in the borings beginning at depths ranging from 4 to 10 feet and it is expected that perched or trapped groundwater conditions will be present within these zones following periods of wet weather.
