1.3 SUBMITTALS

Government approval is required for submittals with a "G" classification.

1.4 QUALITY CONTROL

Supervise and inspect all work under this section, approve all materials and equipment, coordinate shielding work with all other work and trades.

1.4.1 Qualifications

Ensure minimum qualifications as indicated.

1.4.1.1 Radio Frequency Shielding Vendor Qualifications

A firm that has continuously executed the design installation, supervision, and testing of equivalent Radio Frequency shielding systems for the previous 5 years for all the Radio Frequency shielding work.

Submit a project experience list of projects of similar scope completed during the previous 5 years for approval. Include project completion dates, name and contact information of the user and/or owner. Include installation materials, construction system, responsibilities, and performance.

1.4.1.2 Radio Frequency Shielding Contractor's Qualifications

Provide a supervisor continuously engaged in the design, installation, supervision, and testing of equivalent RF shielded systems for the previous 5 years to supervise all Radio Frequency shielding installation work.

Submit the name, qualifications and a list of projects of similar scope completed during the previous 5 years for approval. Include project completion dates, name and contact information of the user and/or owner.

Include field investigations and measurements, installation materials, construction system, testing method, responsibilities, and performance.

1.4.2 Radio Frequency Shielding Shop Drawings

Submit shop drawings for the Radio Frequency shielding system including:

the construction method, materials, arrangement and attachment of the ceiling, method of Radio Frequency sealing joints, the connection and method of Radio Frequency sealing any other attachment to the Radio Frequency shield. Include attachment details for mechanical, electrical, fire protection, and plumbing equipment. Locate and label all Radio Frequency shielding system components and equipment locations.

1.4.3 Field Quality Control Plan and Work Plan

Submit a field quality control plan and work plan to demonstrate compliance with contract requirements. Include: schedule, personnel, methodology, inspection and testing stages and procedures, test equipment and the proposed test report format.

1.4.4 Preconstruction Conference

Hold a preconstruction conference with all Contractors, installers, testing agencies, and contract representatives associated with the Radio Frequency shielding construction and fit out. Review requirements and coordination to ensure the integrity of the Radio Frequency shielding.

Specific items addressed shall include but not limited to: Mock-up requirements, testing requirements, schedule for installation and testing, sequence of material installation and coordination with other sections and trades, penetrations, attachment of other construction and equipment, modification and notification procedures, communication of testing results and modifications if required, inspection standards, inspection requirements and tools, test procedures, environmental control system, safety plan, and test logs. Notify Contracting Officer at least ten days prior to meeting.

1.5 CERTIFICATIONS

1.5.1 Indoor Air Quality Certifications

1.5.1.1 Ceiling Tiles

Provide products certified to meet indoor air quality requirements by UL 2818 (Greenguard) Gold, SCS Global Services Indoor Advantage Gold or provide certification or validation by other third-party programs that products meet the requirements of this section. Provide current product certification documentation from certification body.

1.5.1.2 Adhesives and Sealants

Provide products certified to meet indoor air quality requirements by UL 2818 (Greenguard) Gold, SCS Global Services Indoor Advantage Gold or provide certification or validation by other third-party programs that products meet the requirements of this Section. Provide current product certification documentation from certification body. When product does not have certification, provide validation that product meets the indoor air quality product requirements cited in this Section.

1.6 DELIVERY, STORAGE AND HANDLING

Deliver materials to the site in the manufacturer's original unopened containers with brand name and type clearly marked. Carefully handle and store materials in dry, watertight enclosures. Immediately before installation, store acoustical units for not less than 24 hours at the same temperature and relative humidity as the space where they will be installed in order to assure proper temperature and moisture acclimation.

1.7 ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS

Maintain a uniform temperature of not less than 60 degrees F nor more than 85 degrees F and a relative humidity of not more than 70 percent for 24 hours before, during, and 24 hours after installation of acoustical units.

1.8 SCHEDULING

Complete and dry interior finish work such as plastering, concrete and terrazzo work before ceiling installation. Complete mechanical, electrical, and other work above the ceiling line; install and start operating heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems in order to maintain temperature and humidity requirements.

1.9 WARRANTY

Provide manufacturer's warranty to repair or replace defective materials and workmanship including but not limited to, sagging and warping of panels and rusting and of grid systems, for a period of ten years from date of final acceptance of the work.

1.10 EXTRA MATERIALS

Furnish copper mesh laminated spare tiles, from the same lot as those installed, of each color at the rate of 10 tiles for each 1000 tiles installed.

1.11 MOCK-UP

Prior to the submitted ceiling system's approval, apply the complete ceiling assembly system including Acoustical Ceiling tile with laminated Copper Mesh, electrical lighting fixture with Radio Frequency Shielding Film, a mechanical diffuser, and fire protection concealed sprinkler heads to a 16-foot by 32-foot section as prepared in accordance with PART 3 EXECUTION. Within this area, perform tests as described in the paragraph RADIO FREQUENCY ATTENUATION FIELD TESTING. If shielding testing produces failures, corrective action is required until acceptable. If adhesion results are unacceptable to the acoustical tile, submit a new shielding system/adhesive manufactured by a different vendor. Apply a patch of the new shielding/adhesive system and subject tile to the above requirements

SECTION 09 51 00.10 Page 7 for adhesion prior to approval. If Government Approval Agency is not satisfied with the Radio Frequency results, adjustments to the specifications can be made.

PART 2 PRODUCTS

2.1 SYSTEM DESCRIPTION

Provide sound controlling units mechanically mounted on a ceiling suspension system for acoustical treatment. Provide the unit size, texture, finish, and color as specified. The Contractor has the option to substitute inch-pound (I-P) Recessed Light Fixtures (RLF) for metric RLF.

If the Contractor opts to provide I-P RLF, then provide I-P products for other ceiling elements like acoustical ceiling tiles, air diffusers, air registers and grills. Coordinate the entire ceiling system with other details, like the location of access panels and ceiling penetrations, for instance, shown on the drawings. The Contractor is responsible for the final assembly and performance of the specified work and products if I-P products are used. Provide the location and extent of acoustical treatment as shown on the approved detail drawings. Submit drawings showing suspension system, method of anchoring and fastening, details, and reflected ceiling plan. Coordinate with paragraph RECLAMATION PROCEDURES for reclamation of mineral fiber acoustical ceiling panels to be removed from the job site.

2.1.1 Acoustical Performance

2.1.1.1 Ceiling Sound Transmission

Provide ceiling systems with the specified Ceiling Attenuation Class (CAC) ratings as determined in accordance with ASTM E1414/E1414M and ASTM E413.

Provide sound attenuators over light fixtures, air terminals and other ceiling penetrations, provide acoustical blanket insulation on top of the ceiling or adjacent to partitions to provide lightweight acoustical plenum barriers above partitions as required to achieve the specified CAC ratings. Provide test ceiling continuous at the partition and assembled in the suspension system in the same manner that the ceiling will be installed on the project.

2.1.1.2 Ceiling Sound Absorption

Determine the Noise Reduction Coefficient (NRC) in accordance with ASTM C423. Determine Articulation Class (AC) in accordance with

ASTM E1111/E1111M .

2.2 ACOUSTICAL UNITS

Submit samples of each type of acoustical unit and each type of suspension grid tee section showing texture, uplift clip, finish, and color. Conform acoustical units to ASTM E1264, Class A, and the following requirements:

2.2.1 Units for Exposed-Grid System ACT-2

2.2.1.1 Type

IV (non-asbestos mineral fiber with membrane-faced overlay). Provide Type IV Acoustical Ceiling Tiles containing a minimum of 30 percent recycled content. Provide data identifying percentage of recycled content for Type IV ceiling tiles. Provide certification of indoor air quality for Type IV

Ceiling Tiles.

2.2.1.2 Basis of Design

Provide CertainTeed Fine Fissured HHF-197 or an approved equal.

2.2.1.3 Flame Spread

Class A, 25 or less.

2.2.1.4 Minimum NRC

0.55 when tested on mounting Type E-400 of ASTM E795.

2.2.1.5 Nominal Size

24 by 48 inch.

2.2.1.6 Edge Detail

Trimmed and butt.

2.2.1.7 Finish

Zinc Coated Galvanized Steel Finish. See paragraph COLORS AND STANDARDS.

Acoustical tile must be laminated with copper mesh.

2.2.1.8 Minimum CAC

35.

2.3 SUSPENSION SYSTEM

Provide heavy-duty Drywall suspension system with exposed ASTM A653/A653M zinc-coated hot dipped galvanized steel grid as indicated in drawings, suspension system conforming to ASTM C635/C635M for heavy-duty systems.

Provide wall molding having a flange of not less than 15/16 inch. Provide standard corners. Provide a suspension system with a maximum deflection of 1/360 of the span length capable of supporting the finished ceiling, light fixtures, air diffusers, and accessories, as shown. Conform seismic details to the guidance in UFC 3-301-01 and ASTM E580/E580M .

Provide Suspension System containing a minimum of 15 percent recycled content. Provide data identifying percentage of recycled content for suspension systems.

The T-bar system will be bonded to building steel approximately every 25 feet. The ceiling tiles will sit in the grid system with the hold down clips securing the tile in place so the copper mesh on the tiles will be in contact with the galvanized T-bar system. No additional grounding will be required.

2.4 HANGERS

Provide hangers and attachment capable of supporting a minimum 300 pound ultimate vertical load without failure of supporting material or attachment.

2.4.1 Wires

Conform wires to ASTM A641/A641M , Class 1, 0.08 inch (12 gauge) inch in diameter.

2.4.2 Hold Down Clips

Provide hold down clips capable of attachment to main runners and cross tees.

2.4.3 Compression Struts

Provide manufacturers standard compression struts or cold formed steel framing compression struts to transmit uplift pressure from ceiling to the support structure (cold formed steel framing). Spacing of compression struts to comply with Class 30 UL 580 requirements.

2.4.4 Eyebolts

Provide eyebolts of weldless, forged-carbon-steel, with a straight-shank in accordance with ASTM A489. Provide minimum 1/4 inch, zinc coated eyebolts.

2.5 COPPER MESH ADHESIVE

Provide a high-performance industrial strength contact adhesive formulated for longer open time. Adhesive should be water resistant and temperature resistant to over 200 degrees F. Adhesive should be designed for bonding a wide range of substrates to include decorative laminates and veneers, fiberglass, glass, upholstery, fabrics, foam, auto headliners, cork and particle board. Use adhesive as recommended by tile manufacturer.

2.5.1 Basis of Design

Provide EverStrong ES10+ or approved equal.

2.6 FINISHES

Use manufacturer's standard textures, patterns and finishes as specified for acoustical units and suspension system members. Treat ceiling suspension system components to inhibit corrosion.

2.7 COLORS AND PATTERNS

Use colors and patterns for acoustical units and suspension system components as indicated in drawings; colors listed are not intended to limit the selection of equal colors from other manufacturers.

2.8 COPPER MESH

Use copper mesh meeting 2-18 gigahertz electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding with a surface resistance of less than 1 ohm per square. 100 by 100 per inch with an opening size of 0.0055 inches and an opening area percentage of 30 percent.

2.8.1 Basis of Design

Provide TWP INC 100 Mesh Copper 0.0045, 36 inch wide or approved equal.

2.9 RADIO FREQUENCY SHIELDING FILM

a. Visible Light Transmittance: 72 percent minimum.

b. Minimum Average Shielding Effectiveness: 36dB minimum from 2-18 gigahertz.

c. Minimum Thickness: 2 mil.

d. Water activated adhesive compatible with flat glass or acrylic lens.

e. Provide over lens at each light fixture. Each light fixture lens must receive full coverage by a single continuous piece of film.

f. Perimeter of film at each light fixture must be secured to light fixture frame and adjacent ceiling grid with conductive copper foil tape. Conductive copper foil tape must bridge the conductivity of film to the adjacent finishes.

(1) Conductive copper foil tape:

(a) Minimum Thickness: 1.4 mil.

(b) UL 510 Listed.

2.9.1 Basis of Design

Provide Signal Protect Clear by SafeLiving Technologies Inc., or approved equal.

2.10 MECHANICAL, ELECTRICAL, PLUMBING, FIRE PROTECTION, SECURITY AND DATA

FIXTURES

Provide fixtures as indicated in other spec sections and drawings. The perimeter of each diffuser must be secured to adjacent ceiling grid with conductive copper foil tape. Conductive copper foil tape must bridge the conductivity of diffuser to the adjacent finishes.

2.11 Conductive Copper Foil Tape

Minimum Thickness 1.4 mil UL 510 Listed

2.11.1 Basis of Design

Provide Conductive Copper Foil Tape, or approved equal.

PART 3 EXECUTION

3.1 INSTALLATION

Do not install building construction materials that show visual evidence of biological growth.

Examine surfaces to receive directly attached acoustical units for unevenness, irregularities, and dampness that would affect quality and execution of the work. Rid areas, where acoustical units will be cemented, of oils, form residue, or other materials that reduce bonding capabilities of the adhesive. Complete and dry interior finish work such

SECTION 09 51 00.10 Page 11 as plastering, concrete, and terrazzo work before installation. Complete and approve mechanical, electrical, and other work above the ceiling line prior to the start of acoustical ceiling installation. Provide acoustical work complete with necessary fastenings, clips, and other accessories required for a complete installation. Do not expose mechanical fastenings in the finished work. Lay out hangers for each individual room or space.

Provide hangers to support framing around beams, ducts, columns, grilles, and other penetrations through ceilings. Keep main runners and carrying channels clear of abutting walls and partitions. Provide at least two main runners for each ceiling span. Wherever required to bypass an object with the hanger wires, install a subsuspension system so that all hanger wires will be plumb.

3.1.1 Suspension System

Install suspension system in accordance with ASTM C636/C636M and as specified herein. Do not suspend hanger wires or other loads from underside of steel decking. Install compression struts in accordance with manufacturers installation requirements.

3.1.1.1 Plumb Hangers

Install hangers plumb and not pressing against insulation covering ducts and pipes. Where lighting fixtures are supported from the suspended ceiling system, provide hangers at a minimum of four hangers per fixture and located not more than 6 inch from each corner of each fixture.

3.1.1.2 Splayed Hangers

Splay (slope or slant) hangers around obstructions, offsetting the resulting horizontal force by bracing, countersplaying, or other acceptable means.

3.1.1.3 Hold Down Clips

Hold down clips are to be installed on main runners and cross tees, 1 clip every 2 feet. Hold down clips must be in contact with the surface of the panel.

3.1.2 Wall Molding

Provide wall molding where ceilings abut vertical surfaces. Miter corners where wall moldings intersect or install corner caps. Secure wall molding not more than 3 inch from ends of each length and not more than 16 inch on centers between end fastenings. Provide wall molding springs at each acoustical unit in semi-exposed or concealed systems.

3.1.3 Acoustical Units

Ensure that edges of acoustical units are in contact with metal supports, with each other, and in true alignment. Arrange acoustical units so that units less than one-half width are minimized. Hold units in exposed-grid system in place with manufacturer's standard hold-down clips.

3.1.4 Acoustical Sealant

Seal all joints around pipes, ducts or electrical outlets penetrating the ceiling. Apply a continuous ribbon of acoustical sealant on vertical web of wall or edge moldings.

3.1.5 Copper Mesh Lamination to Ceiling Tile

Wipe back of tile to remove accumulated dust. Apply adhesive according to manufacturers specifications. Press units into place, aligning edges and abutting units tight and uniform without differences in panel geometry.

The copper mesh must be fully laminated over ACT-2 without winkles, fish mouth and overlapping. Copper mesh must face down and 100 percent contact with ceiling grid.

3.2 CLEANING

Following installation, clean dirty or discolored surfaces of acoustical units and leave them free from defects. Remove units that are damaged or improperly installed and provide new units as directed.

3.3 RECLAMATION PROCEDURES

Neatly stack completely dry ceiling tile, designated for recycling by the Contracting Officer, on 4 by 4 foot pallets not higher than 4 foot.

Shrink wrap and symmetrically stack pallets on top of each other without falling over.

3.4 FIELD QUALITY CONTROL

3.4.1 Inspection

Inspect installation for compliance with the contract documentation, shop drawings, equipment and material submissions and specifications. Inspect during and at the completion of the Radio Frequency Ceiling Assembly Mock-Up and Final Radio Frequency Ceiling Assembly.

3.4.2 Radio Frequency Attenuation Field Testing

Perform systematic field control inspection and testing of the Radio Frequency Ceiling Assembly which includes but not limited to acoustic ceiling tile with laminated copper mesh, light fixtures with radio frequency shielding film, mechanical diffusers, conductive copper foil tape, and concealed fire sprinklers heads.

Include the method of inspection and testing, equipment used, personnel, location of tests, test results and corrective action taken or to be taken within Radio Frequency test reports. Testing will be done to see if the ceiling assembly is meeting 2-18 gigahertz electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding with a surface resistance of less than 1 ohm per square.

Corrective measures to be applied until required attenuation levels of 30 dB of one-way attenuation through the ceiling measured at 10 GHz, mid-point of the required frequency range are achieved.

[*Am-5] Follow the test procedures of MILSTD-285. Measure attenuation of shielding material every 20 feet in N/S and E/W directions beginning 2 foot from the edge of the surface to be tested. Provide scaled drawing showing attenuation at each point measured. Note any anomalous readings or corrective measures taken during testing. [**Am-5]

3.4.2.1 Preliminary Radio Frequency Testing

Perform Radio Frequency Ceiling Assembly inspection and testing to the Radio Frequency Ceiling Assembly Mock-Up by the Radio Frequency shielding

Include visual inspection and provide Radio Frequency shielding testing of all component parts and installations. Conduct testing to validate the minimum Radio Frequency attenuation performance requirements. Submit preliminary Radio Frequency test report for approval prior to installation of Final Radio Frequency Ceiling Assembly.

3.4.2.2 Final Radio Frequency Testing

Perform final Radio Frequency Ceiling Assembly inspection and testing, by Radio Frequency shielding vendor when the facility is complete and is ready for occupancy to demonstrate completed construction Radio Frequency attenuation. Include visual inspection and provide Radio Frequency shielding testing of all component parts and installations. Conduct testing to validate the minimum Radio Frequency attenuation performance requirements. Notify the Contracting Officer in writing 14 days prior to tests and assist monitoring by client representatives. Submit the final Radio Frequency test report.
