About this file
This is a Questions and Answers document clarifying requirements from a Performance Work Statement (PWS) for equipment disinfection services involving Virkon-S application.
The document addresses three key inquiries regarding the disinfection process. First, regarding Virkon-S dwell time and post-rinse requirements, the answer specifies that the 1% solution requires a 10-minute contact time and mandatory rinsing after application, particularly for soft metals such as aluminum and copper due to the mildly corrosive nature of the solution. The contractor must dispose of the resulting wastewater in accordance with local regulations. The solution can be applied using the SKUMIX 20 system. Second, concerning equipment condition upon delivery, the Government confirms that all 50 pieces of equipment will be located near the AGWASH station and pre-positioned, with UTARNG responsible for pressure washing and pre-cleaning all equipment prior to sanitization. Third, regarding application methodology, the answer clarifies that the disinfectant can be applied using sprayers, foggers, or misting systems, but does not explicitly permit pressure washers for the disinfection process itself. The document indicates that all other outstanding questions are to be addressed in Revision 2 of the PWS.

Question – Virkon-S Dwell Time and Post Rinse Requirement Does the PWS require a specific dwell/contact time for the 1% Virkon-S solution after application? Additionally, is a post-application rinse required, or is the process limited to applying the solution and allowing it to air dry? This has a direct impact on labor time, water usage, and wastewater volume.
Answer:
Applied as a liquid (1% solution) Can be done using the SKUMIX 20 also Mildly CORROSIVE in 1% solution. Contractor must rinse vehicle off when finished, especially soft metals (aluminum & copper) Creates large amounts of wastewater that must be disposed of per local regulations & requirements requires 10 minutes contact time
Question – Equipment Condition Upon Delivery The PWS states the Army will deliver equipment pre-cleaned and free of dirt and debris prior to Virkon-S application. Can the Government confirm that all 50 pieces of equipment will arrive at the wash site in that condition? If equipment requires pressure washing or pre-cleaning prior to disinfectant application, would that constitute additional scope outside the current PWS?
Answer:
Yes, all equipment will be located close to the AGWASH station prior to the application.
UTARNG will pressure wash/ pre-clean all the equipment before sanitizing.
Question - Is it acceptable to use a pressure washer for the disinfection process?
Answer:
Can be applied using sprayers, foggers or misting systems.
All other questions to this point should be answered within revision 2 of the PWS.
