Re: Williams Road, West Point
We completed a video scan of the interior on this existing 140’ vertical chimney chamber.
The chimney is constructed of brick and mortar throughout and measures 120” in diameter.
We have reviewed the photos and have determined that throughout this chimney chamber, there are missing and deteriorated brick along with mortar missing in the joints throughout.

Damaged lower bricks and missing mortar around entire joint
At approximately 45’ from the top of the chimney, there are four (4) rectangle penetrations that enter the chimney. In addition, there are two (2) 2” round pipe that run approximately 2’ into the chimney chamber.

The brickwork at the top of the chimney is 13” thick. The chase is 14 ½” wide with a 15” wrap.
We believe that the masonry is in need of repairs. There are frequent signs of wear and deterioration that we recommend repairing in the near future.
The breeching for Boiler #1 and Boiler #2 combine into a common 60”x96” trunk approximately 52’ from the base of the chimney wall. This trunk enters the chimney approximately 40’ from the bottom of the chimney chamber.
The breeching for Boiler #3 runs as a 44” diameter pipe. It enters the chimney approximately 30’ from the bottom of the chimney chamber.
It is our recommendation to grind out and repoint the interior mortar joints in its entirety. Access will require a supported scaffold setup to access all points of the interior masonry. We will conduct a wash down of the interior chamber prior to grinding out these joints. The inner walls will be wire brushed and sprayed with the United 375 F.S.R. chemical. The inner walls will be wire brushed and cleaned with a mild pressure water sprayer.
Upon completion of the wash down, we will cut and point with new mortar. The old mortar will be remove to a depth of ½” minimum in the joints. New mortar will be packed in the joints in multiple ‘lifts’ so that each lift is well compressed. Prior to us installing the new mortar, the existing mortar which remains in the recess of the joint will be wet to ensure it does not suck the moisture out of the new mortar.
PW Pricing: Scaffolding $45,000 / Wash Down $35,420 / Repointing work $154,850
