About this file
This document is a Questions and Answers (Q&A) file for a solicitation (W50S6V25QA001) related to LRS Shelves. The Q&A covers detailed specifications for shelving systems in three warehouse areas (A, B, and C), with key requirements including:
Area A specifications include a new mobile shelving system with 10 shelves per unit, Cotterman track ladders with safety rails, and shelves with slots that slide into notched uprights. Area B requires similar shelving with 4 beam levels per section, one safety rail mounted ladder per aisle, and wire decking. Area C will have stationary shelving along left and right walls, approximately 16'l x 96"h x 24"d. Throughout the document, the requester emphasizes flexibility in shelving configuration, safety considerations for ladders, and adaptability for warehouse operations. The Q&A reveals a preference for shelving systems that allow easy reconfiguration and accommodate various storage needs across light and heavy-duty applications.

Questions & Answers
LRS Shelves
W50S6V25QA001
Q1. Below is a link to the Cotterman ladder for the 140 LRS. Is this what you had in mind? These ladders have no handrails for safety, fairly narrow steps (treads) and lifting heavy objects to the top of 12’ shelving would seem hazardous. They are the only rolling ladders on their site I could find that have a track system.
https://www.cotterman.com/products/track-ladders/
A1. Yes, the dual track cotterman ladders are exactly what we would be looking for.
Q2. Area A Right side new mobile system questions (multiple questions):
Confirming you want standard metal shelving, and not wire shelving?
-Contingent upon price. Cheaper option would suffice if it meets the weight threshold requested
Will all of the shelving be 10 shelves per shelving unit?
-Yes. Please allot for 10 shelves per 4ft/3ft section
Can you confirm that you want plywood decking between the rails of the new system?
-There should be a wall to separate back to back shelving. This can be plywood or sheet metal, whichever is the least expensive.
The current system has 4 post type shelving construction; is this the same type of shelving you want in the new system.
-No. The shelves that would be provided with the new system have slots and would slide into the notches built into the uprights.
Q3. Area A right side standard shelving questions (multiple questions):
Regarding the built in track ladder system, here is a link I found https://www.cotterman.com/products/track-ladders/ Is this what you had in mind? These ladders have no hand railing, and carrying boxes up 10+ feet would seem dangerous. The https://www.cotterman.com/products/track-ladders/ same company makes standard ladders that do not attach to the face with wider treads, hand rails and landings with rails which would seem safer.
-We are seeking the safest option. If these built in ladders do not have rails as an option, we would remove them as a request. However, Cotterman does have ladders with safety rails and this is used for retail warehouses
Since the requirement is for 10 shelves per unit, I assume you are storing smaller boxes;
however, the requirement states that the storage capability is a minimum 24”h. With 12-13’ shelving, the typical shelf opening will only be slightly over 13”. Are you wanting the extra shelves for flexibility?
-The additional shelves provide the warehouse team the flexibility to change and move as needed.
Do you want this shelving to be the same type of shelving construction that the mobile system currently has (4 post shelving)
Q4. Area A Left side questions (multiple questions):
Top right bay shows 144” wide beams on the pallet rack, but it looks like it should be 96” for a total run of 60’ can you confirm?
-The wide beams can be adjusted to fit the footprint allocated. We can do 5 12ft beams to gain the 60’.
How many beam levels are required for this area?
-Each section of beams should have 4 for flexibility.
Will product on the lowest level be on the floor of the warehouse, or on the pallet rack beams?
-The additional beams and racks will allow the warehouse the flexibility to make this decision.
Do you want wire decking on all of the beams (this is typical)?
-Additional beams are needed to protect walls and pallet from moving to far back.
Q5. Area B questions (multiple questions):
The shelving in the middle (between the pallet racks) has a total run of 48’, however the drawing shows a total of 17 shelving units per row. Do you actually want qty (12) 4’ shelving units per row for a total of 48’?
-Correct. We want to match the same linear footprint.
Regarding the built in track ladder system, here is a link I found https://www.cotterman.com/products/track-ladders/ Is this what you had in mind? These ladders have no hand railing, and carrying boxes up 10+ feet would seem dangerous. The same company makes standard ladders that do not attach to the face with wider treads, hand rails and landings with rails which would seem safer.
-The link provided does not have the full array of what Cotterman can provide. We would like the rail ladders system but the ladders MUST come with safety rails which are not pictured in their link. However, this company does have the safety ladders available, just not shown on their website.
If we are not able to secure the ladders with a safety rail, the base’s wing safety will not sign off on the request. Thank you.
Can you please confirm there will be one rolling ladder per aisle, and not 2.
-Only one safety rail mounted ladder per aisle.
How many beam levels are required for this area?
-4 beams per sections with racking for flexibility required for the heavy duty shelving for this Area B
Will product on the lowest level be on the floor of the warehouse, or on the pallet rack beams?
-The additional beams and racks will allow the warehouse the flexibility to make this decision.
Do you want wire decking on all of the beams (this is typical)?
-Yes. No not typical, but the additional product provides warehouse flexibility.
Do you want this shelving to be the same type of shelving construction that the mobile system currently has (4 post shelving)
Q6. Area C questions (multiple questions):
Stationary shelving will be along the left and right walls only, and not along the back wall.
Can you confirm?
-Correct. The middle section will remain open to stage the cases within and secure to the wall.
Both shelving runs will be approx. 12’ long x 88”h x 18”d, is this correct?
-I believe the measurements were a little longer. 16’l x 96h” x 24”
Q7. Some of the answers were a little confusing. Can you see attached for clarifications? I have also included the type of shelving I believe you are looking for.
These can come with backs. (Attachment included with solicitation documents)
A7. I am not familiar with the shelving system they are showing in the brochure so I could not confirm if that system would suffice and my concern would be the cost to customize. I have attached photos of the system that I am familiar with that provides the flexibility.
